What are the most essential elements of the master test kits? I already bought the nitrite. SO I was thinking if i just need two other things (nitrate and ammonia for example) i wont waste the 50 bucks on the whole kit. That way I can just grab the single bottles of what i NEED most. Thanks in advance.

Ammonia and nitrite are a must, and maybe PH just to make sure its stable. Some people use KH and GH tests too, but I never have.

I've only ever tested for ammonia, nitrite and nitrate.

I suppose it depends if you keep any fish that are sensitive to things like PH and hardness etc.

IMO Ammonia, Nitrite and Nitrate are essential, to make sure your tank water is healthy for your fish (even too much nitrate is bad). PH and KH are also essential, as you need to 1. be prepared for ph drops and fluctuations, as ph shock can kill, and 2. know what your buffering capacity is, to prevent ph crashes etc.

So get them all. Better to know facts than to wonder.

Hi..in my books, pH is essential. All life lives within a certain pH range for their species. Deviate and death can occur. Human pH range 7.35-7.45 in healthy people. Fish have ranges too. Outside of their range, they may be stressed and subject to diseases. Good Luck. SH

Yea so i would get the whole test kit, it probably adds up to being the same as buying the ph, nitrate, andd ammonia seperatley anyways.

I would go with liquid test kits though (more accurate)
