So Marineland was kind enough to send a replacement filter for my defective/leaking one. However it had a rather loud rattle to it, when I called them about it, and mentioned that it wasn't the propeller, they claimed that the new filter was defective, and sent out another new one. However the new one also has the same rattle noise. After emailing support this time, they told me that it was defective as well, and then I should ship it back and they would then send out a third filter..

I was wondering does anyone else have a rattle to there filter, my previous one had no noise at all. I did take apart the filter head of the 'spare' filter, and i think the issue is, on the side that the water is coming into the filter, there is a plastic flap. which when i manually move it around sounds close to the rattle I'm hearing.

Also the other odd part, is if i squeeze the out tube (the tube with water returning to the tank), my rattle goes away! However it obviously cuts down the flow in the tank.

Any thoughts of what I might be able to do?

I recently gave up on mine. It worked great for the first 3 years but now frequently makes strange noises and has started leaking enough to fill the tray that I keep under the filter just in case of a drip. I am hoping it will hold together long enough for the new filter I put on my 45 gallon to become cycled. After that it will be time for me to start scavenging parts. Sorry that I can't provide any more hope for you. Aqueon was recently doing a filter replacement promotion at my LFS and traded me, at no charge, for an old filter I had that had failed but I was keeping for parts. If they do it again next year, they will get my old C series filter as a trade in.
