Marine Upgrade

Definite Alveopora, good call TI :)

Also unfortunately as mentioned, they are very hard to keep alive in captivity.

Thanks again all. Found a detailed article on Alveopora if anyone is interested.

Based on the Article i'd say that the one in my tank. is a Alveopora catalai?

Possibly. Goniopora minor and Goniopora somaliensis look fairly close to yours also... This said, two members have ruled out it being a Goniopora species, so it probably isn't one of them...

It's a nice piece though, whatever it is  Hope it is an easier to keep species :good:

All the best

THE BOOK is Aquarium Corals: Selection, Husbandry and Natural History by Eric Borneman.

A fair few of us use this book and it is considered by those that do as their coral bible.

Thanks for the reccomendation Tiger. I've finally got round to buying this book and its brillant. Got it for £20 from Amazon and its easily the best 'fish book' (so to speak) I've ever had.

Wilde.

No problem Oscar, hope you read it cover to cover though as Borneman intended rather than nipping in and out of chapters.

I find that he went through the whole subect of corals very well and found the book an enthralling read.

I then purchased The Reef Aquarium Volume 3, JC Delbeek and J Sprung. A very technical book but all aspects of reef keeping and reef aquariums as well as water chemistry and equipment is covered.

When you are feeling rich (£50 on amazon, I had some loyalty points from credit card to cash in) that is a brilliant read too.

if you still want a vallenti puffer i have one and he has not dared to look at my corals or hermits or my shrimp! I may be lucky but they are soooo cool to keep got to feed frozen clams tho (snails sometimes try to brake in to them and he has a go at them instead) I may be lucky :)

Thanks bollands. I've got all buying on hold as I'm moving flats at the end of September. Will need to run through my plans for tank moves before then.

how are those Alveopora fairing so far?

Doing well thanks. Still very much alive. They seem to be fairly inconsistent in extending their Polyps. Some days its not at all some days full extension.

The GSPs and the toadstool are also doing well. The Toadstool has increased in size by about 40% and looks super healthy. Best thing is that the clowns have started to host in it. The GSP have increased in size by about 400%! I've fragged it 5 times and the tanks starting to take on a distinctly reef-like apperance :good:
