This is Murdoc (for those who heard my cat story you know what i mean)
++I DO NOT FIGHT BETTAS THAT IS CRUELTY TO ANIMALS!!!++

Due to a freak cat-knocking-over-fish-bowl incident, my new betta fish Murdoc had to be saved from my floor by being thrown (not literally) into my other bettas tank.

They fought in the 5 minutes that i was looking for a cup or bowl.
Squishy my tiny betta, got torn to shreds. His fins look like they came out of a paper shredder and he has some tiny bite marks..

I am buying some Anti-Fin rot medication today to keep the fins clear from infection, and Squishy is back in his tank and is still fluttering his fins at me :-( the little guy!

And Murdoc... the <Insert Very Bad Word Here> is in isolation on the other side of the room to calm his nerves.

If there is anything else i can do for Squishy, please let me know.

Bettamax, bettamax, bettamax. And salt. You scared me, I thought you were fighting them on purpose. Good luck - at least he has a chance now, which he wouldn't if you hadn't saved him from the floor one way or another!

I'm terribly sorry to hear about that. What a freak accident but....honestly...I drop bettas daily during water changes and they're fine. I know it was a panic moment but he'd of been better off on the floor for a minute, than in a tank with another male. I'm sure you realize all of this though. I agree with cation, bettamax asap.

So wait, you put him in another male bettas tank instead of picking him up?

what should he have done, held it in his hand until it died?
give the guy a break, it was an tragic accident, he did what he thought best at the time.

Yup, and the fish is alive, with someone who cares about his well-being. The outcome could have been much worse. However, GP, knowing how you became hooked on bettas, I can see that this might be a sensitive subject for you. Now he knows what to do next time! ;)

I agree completely!!

I really didn't understand what he meant, either the betta jumped from his tank into another and he didn't notice, or he put the betta in another tank while he was getting another container/tank ready.

I would have filled a cup with water and put him in there, but yes, I am sensitive on this subject. :/

I believe his cat knocked the bettas bowl over, he panicked, and probably didn't want to put him in water that was not dechlorinated.

"Naturally fighting fish has very good recovery system to refresh itself to its own normal state. In case the fish just simply lose his own fin by little nipped. You just simply separate one to another bowl and take care it as you usual do. The fin should grow back within 3 - 10 days depending how large he lost his fin. In case of long fin such as those superdelta and crowntail, the fin ray may deformed.

But if the fighter injured from the fighting combat, please do the following:
1. Put the fish in the small clear plastic container diametre 3 - 4 inches with the water level 1 centimetre above his Dorsal fin. You may observe that he can move easily to dipping the air on the water surface. You may lower a bit water in case he is severely bad injured. If the water is too low and cause him to lean itself on the bottom of the bowl. He would very difficult to get the air. He has to struggle himself for the air in which it would hurt him a lot in turn. On the other hand if you put too much water the fish would difficult to swim up to get the air, in case he has bad injured wound.

2. Drop one drop of Acrifavine solution 0.1 % and place him in the shaded normal room temperature (in Thailand is around 25-28 C). No feed any food.

3. The third day change entire water and drop one drop of Acrifavine solution 0.1% but you may adding water to 3 inches level. Check your fish by side watch whether how much your fish are recovered. In the normal situation I think your fish should swim smartly but you can still see the curing wound. Feed the live food about 5 -6 blood worm but not allow the food remain in his bowl.

4. In the fifth day you may observe that he is almost completely in the same state before fight. But it may left some honor scar such as deform mouth and the new scale may not in the proper layer. But that is the pride of the fighter. Then you can change him to larger bowl."

(if anyone is offended by this information seeing as it comes from a breeder of fighters, i will delete and censor any useful information i come across in the future).

FYI - aquatronics freshwater has a product called "Acriflavin Plus" -
Acriflavin is a superior chemotherapeutic for the treatment of Velvet. This formula combines Acriflavin, Sulfamethazine, Sulfamerazine, Sulfathiazole, Salt and Malachite Green. It is a powerful antifungus aid.

Excellent advice, as always!

wen stuff like that happens u dont rely think u just act, he did wat he thoght was best and im sure the fish will b fine. bettas can live outa water for a long time, iv heard 15 minuts ( may b wrong ) the only thing that i think would hurt them would be drying out.

gl wit him, and dont be mad at the other fish, its their nature to fight.

give your cat a shower whenever he gets near another 1 of your small tanks

if you do this enough he'll get it through his head that going near 1 of those things = a shower

Thanks for all the information everyone..... but one thing bugged me... actually 2 things....

#1. Jesus no i would never fight them. i am not that twisted
