I have a 10gal which is empty and I want to add my male and 2 female Bettas. I've heard horror stories but have seem them live peacefully together. I wanted to add 2 females then add the male last. Does this seem like a good idea? I could always put them back if it doesn't work out.

I hope I don't seem rude but you know the answer to this question. No one on this forum is going to recommend you keep males and females together, in a 10g of all things.

I agree with almost awes0me. I do it all the time but my tank size is always larger than 40 gallon and heavily planted with lots of hiding spot and decors. in a ten gal your betta will meet often and very likely to attack each other

I have a male and 2 females in a 75l tank with not many hiding spots and theyre fine, no flaring up or fighting

I wouldn't recommend it in a 10 gallon, even two females can have their fights.

What about a 125l? Would that be ok for 1 male and 2 females?

I still wouldn't recommend it.
I don't know why people keep wanting to try it as in the majority of cases it ends badly

Their have been succes stories but even having just two females like mentioned above will have their fights, I started out with 2 females in my 15g and they still were territorial and nipped at each other

Guessing they haven't been together long so have not set up territories yet, it will change, personally I'd separate them now

No, as said nobody on here is going to say yes no matter what the tank size and the stocking is very incompatable for Bettas

Yes I'm currently doing it as a TEMPORARY measure until my divide tank is set up but I ill not recommend it to anybody! My 1 male and 1 female are in a 3ft tank with 4 kribs and 2 angels temp but will not be staying together at all. Even temporarily I didn't want to because of the bad stories. I'm just lucky mine are OK with each other for now. They will be separated within the next 2 weeks and I'll be able to breathe easy again.

Slycat, if you are looking for approval you have simply come to the wrong place. I will not ever recommend keeping any female Betta splendens with any male. End of statement. Such have been tried in the past which is exactly why we no longer try such things. A divider is quite another story. Many males have been kept isolated from females by a simple tank divider.

Thanks everyone. You know me and my crazy ideas
