I have a 55g freshwater tank that I just changes over to a sand substrate. I have read a lot of positive things about the MTS and got 50 of them. Will that be enough for a 55g or should I get more?

Definitely plenty. Soon you'll be asking how to get rid of them!

I wouldn't bother getting more- the numbers will probably increase a bit as they breed any ways
