hi guys,
anyone had any experience of these algae cleaners? they any good or a no no? they going quite cheap on ebay

thanks

Thay come free with most plants from Asia. lol

They don't eat much algae but do a good job of aerating and eating up the detritus in the substrate tho

edit. If you have the room a common bristlenose plec will do a good job of cleaning the algae unless you get a lazy one

They are good for turning the substrate and do eat a little algae, but the best snails, ive found for cleaning algae, particularly brown algae, are ramshorn snails, look up nick16 on the buy/sell forum, hes got loads going and dont think he wants anything but postage for them :good:

I got Mts's from my LFS maybe about 30 they turned into over 200 in a matter of weeks, They produce like crazy.

My puffer loves them crushed up.

They do reproduce very quickly. They just about overran my tank until I picked up a pair of yoyos. Now I don't think I have any. :( Don't remember the last time I saw one.

My clowns love slurrrping them out there shells prob then is you end you with 100's of empty shells

hi mate i have some snails they are brill the best thing is they breed with them selves i will have soom babies soon if you are intrested i will have at least 10 you can have them for £2.00 when i find them all

i have some ramshorns you can have, they eat a;gae and are a bit bigger and look better.

thanks for the offers guys, ive got a silver shark n some catfishes about 6" in length - these wont eat the snails will they?

I want some MTS! :D
I told fiance we could probably just go in to Petsmart and ask for some for free, but I think he's too chicken to and I'm too shy :p lol

i think ramshorns are just as good as mts and are a tiny bit bigger so you can see them ar work. i think ramshorns are under rated. im throwing some wawy tonight. pm me if you want some.

Depends on what kind of catfish, but silver/bala sharks will eat snails. They suck them out of the shells similar to loaches.

If you're being overrun by a livebearing snail with small broods, you could do with more gravel cleaning. Babies will easily get sucked up in a gravel vac, as well as their food source. If you have a thick plant carpet and can't vac most of it, then use snail traps and remove/crunch any you see on the glass.
