Hi Guys,

I haven’t been on here for some time as everything has been fine in the Malawi tank but just recently a few of the inhabitants have been acting a little oddly. First I did a mammoth water change when I came back from China in December (about 65%) and my yellow labs started to chase each other and circle each other and swim in circles like dolphins.

Then today I noticed my Hongi go upto each other and shake violently like they are being electrocuted. They then both dived into a hole in a piece of bogwood and started continuing shaking until I disturbed them. The little buggers have also been digging holes like mad!!!!

I tested all the normal parameters and these are as they should be. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance, Jive

ARE YOU KIDDING ME???? I hope you have other tanks that are set up and cycled (now that I reread your post i'm betting you dont  ) ANYWAY...think of it this way. SPRING IS HERE!!! at least in your tank it is and your about to have an explosion of fry. All that "dancing" and "jive jumpin'" is all part of spawning HAVE FUN!!!! watch carefully and you'll see mommas with chubby cheeks cuz they have lil' eggies in them
While your at it, do some research on "breeding african cichlids"........ :sly:

Oh la la - Well its certainly a good excuse to setup more tanks...am not sure the floor can take the weight though. How many babies are we talking here?

Your right, I'll sit down tonight and surf the net and keep an eye out for puffy cheeks?

Hi certainly get ready for some hongi fry, as for how many it can vary my female trewvasse has just spat her fry and there was 8 but my female maylandia greshakai has just spat and there are about 25-30 so its hard to say in my experiance they seeem to have more the more times they spawn as my travwasse on her first batch of fry only had 3. good luck and get those fry tanks ready its a great feeling to see her spit then raise the fry.

stewy
