ok,i had A wrestling thing this week, and tonight when i got home, hoping to see an empty 55 (mom was suppossed to sell a gourmi, red devil, and plec that some lady didnt know anything about) i instead found a tank full of snails and worms. the worms are little, very little, and so are the snails. we've done nothig new to the tank for monthes, so what is the deal? the worms move like caterpillers. the worms are white. What are they? what should i do??

ok thanks, thats what i figured. but what can i do about them, there are probably almost a thousand, some barley visible. what can i do about them? and the snails? I have three juvie dempseys in there, hoping for a pair to form. so hopefully you can suggest something that will eat some of the worms, and hopefully snails, yet live ok w/ dempseys.

Thanks again

oh, and how did all that come about? the worms AND the snails? like i said, in my 55, there are no live plants, and no recent purchases. so how snails? And worms too. Are they just large bacteria?

I just had a massive outbreak of snails and there seems like there are new babies everyday.

I am buying some loaches to clean them up.

jeez i dont really know anything about loaches though. i do like some of the ones they have at our lfs, but i cant remember the name. They need groups, right? And btw, can SOMEONE answer how that stuff got in my tank? especially the snails. icant figure out how.

do you have live plants in your tank? if so, the snails came from those plants. for future reference rinse the new plants in salt water before putting them in your tank! i had an outbreak and had to learn the hard way too! :good:

Loaches dont eat snail eggs, you'll never truely rid yourself of snails until you poison them.

nope, no live plants at all. these seem to have come from nowhere

You'll find that a Betta (once he's discovered one batch) will continuously keep his eyes open for snails eggs.

Mine did at least. didn't notice them for a while, then once he did. BINGO. I take out adults which I rarely see now, and Betta has a nice freebie meal every once in a while.

Superb discover. I was gonna buy 4 chain loaches. now I don't need to, and I've bought 3 Pitbull Plecs instead to keep the glass clean.

Who said Bettas were a useless but pretty fish. Damn hard working is mine (and very pretty. aaaaaaah)

but a betta wont work well in my tank. a breding pair of jd's and a royal pleco. im actually getting the pleco tonight, anything i should know? And a pair of cons btw

If you have recently bought the JD's maybe they got in with the water from the bag. Just a thought, seem feesable if there's no other way.

no, the tank was emptied f older fish tha day. the jds were in a 10g

Snails were probably already in the gravel.. Do you dislike them that much? If you have no live plants you have nothing to worry about.

I'd be more worried about having 2 pairs of aggressive cichlids.

i dont dislike trhe snails, i do dislike the littel worms though. My mail concern or question was how the snails got in tho.
