Hey guys I've had my tank a little while now, I've had a shubumpkin from the stars and added a little algae eater and a couple of minnows. Everything was perfect, I went to a different store and brought another algae eater and he keeps sucking the shubumpkin!! Why is he doing this? And why isn't the other one? :S please help as I don't want him to harm any of my fish

Sounds like a golden algae eater. The will suck the slime coat off of other fish. Try adding vegetables and algae wafers. I had to regime mine because this doesn't always work!

Yes, some suckermouth fish do get a taste for other fish's slime coats.

There's not really much you can do about it, unfortunately; once they start, it's very difficult habit to break, so you might have to try and get rid of it; it will harm your shubunkin if it carries on.

He didn't do anything with the veg and no where open at this time so had to seperate him. Just don't get why the old one never did it and he's still in there happy sucking on glass lol

Mine loved cucumbers, I would still try to keep introducing vegetables. It took a while before mine started chasing the other tank mates, your going to have to keep a close eye on him and make sure he stays busy with algae wafers and other snacks along with algae. Good luck!

Were going away for a few days so going to have to take him back tomorrow, dont want to come back to dead fish :( dosnt matter if I don't get a refund just aslong as my fish are ok and he re joins his original tank mates that's cool :).
Also brought some shrimps as the same time as him, paid for 2 but the guy didn't realise he have us 3! :D everyone's getting along :) thanks for the help guys :D
