I get that the common chemicals that we test for are fine in your tank. There is so much more that can affect your fish including the quality of the water aside from those chemicals, the temperature of the water, the completeness of the food in their diet, the variety of foods you are feeding, etc. The list goes on and on. With no apparent disease in a tank, I sometimes also lose a fish now and then to old age. If you are losing what seems like a lot of fish, try doing a huge water change for who knows what contaminant and change the basic diet for the tank full of fish.

That's so sad about your fish boost_67, its very odd.

Could I just ask about your test vials. If it's the API Master Test Kit you use the colours seem a bit odd. I assume the middle one is Nitrite cos that's the correct colour for 0, the other colours seem a bit strange. Their Ammonia colours range from bright yellow for 0 & through to green, and the nitrate goes through oranges, browns then reds. I don't understand why the left one is clear and the right one is dark blue  ??

I apologise if its another test kit you're using. Just an observation that's all.

I hope someone can help you with your fish problem.

Sudden weight loss in fish is often caused by internal bacterial or parasitic infections. Particularly with the sudden deaths, that is another symptom of internal bacterial infection being to blame- do any of the fish have white/stringy looking poop?

I once lost fish in a manner you describe and I eventually found out I had a female platy that was systematically picking a fish and the killing it. Just a thought if all else fails. Observe after lights out and see if you have a rogue.

sorry about the deaths
about 2 years ago my dad lost all his livebearers (about 15 over a few weeks) to the same problem a you are describing
internal bacterial or parasitic infections would make sense
so i would say it is contagious to some extent so i would do a 50% water change

How about an update Boost. Have you tried a massive water and diet change yet? How are you doing with the rest of your fish?
