maintaning a pH

My bettas have always lived in pH of 8.4 since the day I got them.
I have no way to control it with that small of water tanks - they've just adjusted to it and they do fine with it.

I dont' try to mess with it because for one, I can't control it steadily with the amount of water changes I do, and two - it's better to have a constantly stable pH than a low once every once in a while.

Hi,

I am having real problems maintaining PH in my Tropical Aquarium, any help would be much appreciated.

I have a Juwel Trigon 190 (190 Litres), with an Undergravel Filter, and a Fluval 4 Filter.

I currently have 13 Silver Dollars, sized at aprox. 6in each. I am certain that there are too many fish, but my local fish shop sold them to me, assuring me that my tank and setup was suitable, somehow I think that I have been mislead ??

I constantly have to buffer the Ph from 4.0 to 6.5 usually every 2 weeks. It is costing me an absolute fortune !! But beside that it surely isn't good for the fish, as some of them appear to be distressed.

I have no live plants in the aquarium as the fish eat them within a few days.

I am feeding them Tetra Doromin, Tetra Prima, Vitakraft Cichlid Green at the amounts that I was advised to feed by the man at the fish shop.

Any suggestions please ????

Thankyou

Anthony

metfan, care to share? lol If not, glad things are going well. :)

anthony, same advice: check KH, and tap's pH.
If 6.5 is the norm (and your measure from tap), baking soda prob. your best bet. Adjust water before you add it to the tank, and continue to do so w/ each change. I'm not familiar w/ products on the mkt, but what are you using to buffer now?

Your q's on the SD's, prob. better answered in Characins forum. ;)
