Magically Appearing Shrimp

Hi All

I'm slightly confused here

I had 4 amano shrimp, 3 died last week (horrid story) but yesterday, i looked in my tank to find 2 amanos and not 1 amano

He/she is over a cm in size,maybe 1.5cms and i have never seen this amano before. My tank is fresh water and not brackish, i thought amanos only bred in brackish waters?

I can't understand where this extra amano came from??

Your right about needing brackish.
They will breed in freshwater but the larvae need the brackish to be survive the first few stages.

So how you got an extra one is very strange.

2 possible theories

1 There was a tiny juvenile that smuggled its way into the bag at the lfs

2 It's not an Amano but a very lightly coloured cherry shrimp. Possible a hitchhiker on your plants....I've seen that happen before.

i've had my amanos for 3 months now, unless it hitchhiked on a plant the other week? still baffled
