Does anyone have experience with these guys? I have 7 and lost 1 a couple days ago, i think it died because it jaw broke, but now it looks like most of my rainbows are starting to have the same problem. Theirs jaws are slowly becoming more and more open, is this a normal health condition for them?

I used to have some of these guys, but never came across this. Having said that, I only kept them about a year and a bit so can't say for certain that it doesn't develop with age. How long have you had yours?

Poor things.
Can you see anything on the mouth area?
What do their gills look like?
Does there mouths look sore inside?

Ive had them for about a week.

They eat 100% fine, and have nothing anywhere on their body, their jaws just are slowly opening until they die from it :(, lost 2 more from it.

not normal.
it could be that they are fighting with each other as the males will do that to one another. the tank needs to have fast moving current and should be more then 3 feet as they are active.
any stringiness in the poo?
jaw red?
post picture?
what are you feeding them?
the fire eel can be attacking them and causing harm.

Their in a 55 gallon, it looked like it was a 5-3 female/male ratio, not anymore though. No stringy poo, jaws still normal color, i dont notice a difference, i wouldnt be able to get a good pic of their tiny mouths when they dont stop moving :/

I feed them bloodworms, and cobalt pro breeder flakes, the fire eel doesnt even attack the endlers in the tank, or thier babies.

This is what happens until they die. :(

Do you ever feed them pellets? Or any food that might be too big for their mouths? I've seen that happen temporarily when my rainbowfish have been too greedy and tried to eat something bigger than their mouths allow. Are you able to see if anything is trapped in its mouth or throat?

Well i feed my cories the shrimp pellets, do you think that could do it? I lost 2 more today, only 3 left :( and my cories are pretty much all dead, 3 left, looks like 2 rainbows are soon going to die, idk what i did wrong in this tank!!! My pleco, shrimp and fire eel are 100% ok

Sorry to hear that - it's always frustrating to lose fish. Especially when the cause is unclear.

I think it's definitely possible that the Madagascars have dislocated their jaws by trying to eat pellets that are too big for them. It's difficult to say for certain though unless the you catch them in the act. Do the cories that died have the same symptoms? It might be worth trying to examine the Madagascar's mouth to see if anything is lodged inside.

No theres nothing lodged in their mouths, ive looked inside them when they look at me.

The cories i think got infected by the sterbais i brought in, were showing what looked like signs of serious fin rot, or fungus, but nothing else that i could see.

Do you know the gH and pH of your tank water? I seem to recall reading somewhere of a similar problem with other rainbow fish and it was put down to either the pH or gH being beyond their preferred parameters.

Well my pH s 7.6, i dont have a gH tester :/

I think you may have missed malfunction's point.

I think this is possible. I just feed my Madagascan Rainbows on normal flakes and they're fine. It could be an illness or disease but try feeding normal flakes for a while and see if that helps.

Well i have to feed my cories, although I only have 2 cories left, and one rainbow now :( but i  still have to give algae wafers for my pleco, and algae bits for my bamboo shrimp and bloodworms for my fire eel. The last rainbow seems healthy but so did all of the others, idk what ima do with this tank anymore.
