Mad Giant Danio

Hello everyone B)

I'm brand new around here ... my last aquarium was twenty years ago ... but now thanks to the kids I'm back into aquariums ...

I'm starting a twenty gallon tank ... three Giant Danios .. small guys .. three small Tiger barbs .. three Serpae Tetra ...

One of the Danios has gone bonkers ... he will not let anyone come out of the plants ... he even pounces on his two commrades keeping them in one of several corners .. he takes the whole front and upper surface for himself !! With the exception of a somewhat nasty Tiger Barb that managed to earn his right along the bottom and corner... one of the Danios get stuck in the corner by the Mad Danio and then hit from behind by the nasty Tiger Barb I hope they do not where this Danio out ??

In my old tank there was a steady stream of water along the top that kept the Danios busy since they would swim upstream all day ( that was a twenty nine gallon ) .. I think the Danios are bored !!

Should I add a filter that puts out a jet of water ?? After the tank breaks in .. maybe a few Gouramis will put this guy on track ?

What do you think ???

there is your problem
all of those fish need to be kept in groups of at least 5 (6 for the tiger barbs)
additionaly giant danios are to big for a 20 gallon tank 30 is the minimun size for the as they will get 6" as adults.

have you cycled the tank?
I suggest reading the many topics on this forum about cycling, also you may wish to read my website it is all about danios.

i would not put gouramis in with them fish what about some corys or cardinals

Wow ... some collection of Danios on your site !! B)

I'm breaking in the tank now .. maybe I should of used the fishless method ?? Instead I'm trying it with a few fish.

In the old days I had a 29 gallon tank ... but a stream of water from a filter ... seemed to keep the Danios occupied .. Do you think it is worth a shot to add another filter ? The filter I have now just rolls the water into the tank.

Maybe I just need to get that BIG tank !!!

those are just some of the many species that are available.

I have a powerhead running on my danio tank
they just love it!
the advantage of powerheads is you can direct the flow, thus changing the current in the tank. I do this every couple of weeks so they have more variety.
additionally you can add a pre-filter to powerheads, if it is required.

Hello North Paul ..

Perhaps it's Gouramis and Tiger barbs that are not a good combo ?? or the Tetra .. I have not had a problem with Danios and Gourami in my limited experience in the past .. keep in mind these are little Danios ..

I will look into your suggestions ... some of these fish it seems have individual personalities ??
