Went to get 2 blue acaras from PAH. you know how it is, everything is basically mixed in with everything else so i ask for some help from a member of staff.i saw a muddy light green dull cichlid in a tank with some firemouths, he had no markings, no speckling. just a very ugly cichlid indeed, told be it was an acara but i wasnt convinced. i bought it, got it home and hes gone all black within 10 minutes of going in my tank. the second one i was told definately an acara, looks nothing at all like the first one and is half the size. i was basically there with 4 staff debating what they were as they hadn't a clue. so here is cichlid one.

hmmm very much lucky dip isnt it..... Last pic kind of looks like a young flowerhorn? Top one does look Acara esc but to me looks more GT shape than BA... Tough to tell from the pics though.

First one looks like a young green terror to me. The second looks like a Texas cichlid. Could be wrong on both just what they look to be.

Got to ask as well.... why go to P@H when Manchester has so many good fish shops?

i went into abyss first but no acaras. pets at home for some wood as its 3 for 2 and you get some massive pieces. lol. wasn't expecting anyone to say flowerhhorn for the second, its very spangly and green, tiny thing

think this is the other little one. looks a dead cert

Cichlasoma octofasciatum

yep i think its a jack dempsey. still unsure on the other but hes a confident fish

Not sure on the first one. I did have a BA once and he did look like that. Hard to tell from the pic though.

the unknown one was olive green in the shop, hes black now. very attactive fish now but no other colour to him although he's banded slightly

still non the wiser on the black cichlid but in certain light he has greany/blue flashes around his mouth and eyes.

first one looks to be a ba or gt and second one i thought flowerhorn it has a few characteristics but not all, id probably go texas or texas hybrid but 100% not a blue acara, i woould not think they would get more rarer cichlids so wont suggest any others. my 2 local p@h always stock taxas and acaras.

the other one is a jack dempsey, its only about 1 inch at the moment. they seemed to have hybrids in the other tanks. one looked like an acara cross convict and was guarding eggs :hyper: 3 convicts were huddling in the corner not daring to even make eye contact with her lol
