I am looking into setting up a reef tank and have been given various info but could someone tell me if live rock should smell bad when purchased please

I really doubt it should smell, I think it means there is a lot off die off, so it isn't that good quality

AFAIK it should have a salty smell to it, like the sea, if it smells bad then there is most likely a lot of dead organisms in it and it will need cured.

if it smells sweet then its cured if it smells like death then it needs to be cured .
