So, is there anyone else out there that just adores the books and/or movies? I am a big, big fan of both. Yeah, there are some things that annoy me in the movies, but since when has a movie been able to completely capture a book? Anyhow, I am eagerly anticipating the release of "The Hobbit". So, anyone want to start a discussion? It doesn't have to be strictly Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit, it can be anything JRR Tolkien, or Christopher Tolkien related.

best books ever, read them on a regularbasis since I fist read them at 13 till now when in 30s!!

Hobbit is a better story if you catch my drift but Lord of the rings is immense

They are making The Hobbit! Nooooooooooo, dont ruin this book too, I love LOTR books, but for me, the movies whilst ok, didnt capture the magic that the books did. The hobbit is my favourite book ever, think I will avoid a film as I will rip it apart if it isnt word for word correct

They did a very good job with the movies, apart from the second one which was for comic value they almost followed the books exactly. While I didn't like the main books much really, I thoroughly enjoyed the Hobbit, it was the last book I ever read, I will be glad to see this made into a movie.

Whats "The hobbit" film going to be about?

hope same charcaters are in there!

i want to see more dwalfs!!

I LOVE lord of the rings.. i play the total war version!

Knox, The Hobbit is the story of how Bilbo got The Ring in the 1st place. It is a prequel to the other books.

Indeed, and there are lots of dwarves, dragons, huge spiders, trolls etc. It's awesome!

lets just hope they do a better job of it than LOTR (OK but had potential to be far better than it was IMO).

That said I have yet to see a book-film conversion that I preferred the film version of........

Now....

What has it got in its pocketsssssss???

lol, about The Two Towers movie, I have the special extended version on DVD (as I do with all 3), and Peter Jackson himself said he was somewhat frusterated with The Towers. I'm trying to summarize what he said, but I may end up doing this poorly. He said something along the lines of, in order for The Fellowship of the Ring and The Return of the King to be as powerful as they are, things had to be cut and rearranged from The Two Towers. He also said it was difficult in trying to capture all three groups journies.

Yeah, there wasn't any elves at Helms Deep in the book, it was all men....

One thing I really like about the movies is the musical score. Seriously, the music really added to the movie for me. I've listened the music so many times, that probably about 90% of the time (you have to give me room for error :p ) you could show me a song from any of the 3 movies, and I can tell you which movie its from and what is happening in the scene the music is playing in. I generally listen to one of the sound tracks at least once a day. Anyone else who likes the musical score?
