Hi,

I currently have a 10 gallon tank filled with 5 red-wag platties, and I have a few java ferns. The tank has been setup for over 3 years now and is very stable, I have not had any problems with it for about 2 years now. So now onto the problem I'm facing.

I'm going to be starting a new job, which requires me to relocate. I am also going to be doing fair bit of travel in the next 6 months or so. I can leave the fish with my parent's however, they are very busy and I don't think I want to burden them with taking care of the fish. My plan is to basically take a break from fish keeping until things settle down and then start again with maybe a 40 or 50 gal.

So this is where I need some advice. How hard is it to sell a complete setup like this that is stable and fully stocked? I know if I bought a fish tank, the first thing I would want to do is drop in some fish.

I have thought about giving the fish to a fist store nearby but, they don't take them. I guess the platties are a little too run of the mill.

I welcome any ideas, advice you may have.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Your best chance is to Ebay it all of at a very reasonable price, can be competative :)

My concern is less on how to deal with the equipment. I'm more worried how to deal with the fish.

Honestly, I don't think too many people want to buy a fish tank with fish included. I know when I've been looking for used tanks I've turned them down because they included stock I didn't fancy.

However, any reputable (non-chain) fish store will accept the platies for free. Alternately, post something on craigslist looking for homes for the fish. Then sell the setup separately.

How about taking the fish to a shop and keeping the tank and equipment. When you get a bigger tank later on, you could use the current one as a hospital tank, if and when needed.
