Hello folks,

One of the LFS's near me is currently looking after a couple of tanks of discus for a customer. In one of the tanks there are some cory's, but maybe 3x the size of normal.

They are definately cory's, not some other percies, but they are maybe 5-6" long.

I have a big enough tank that I could keep a group of 6-8 of them very happily, but have no idea what they are called. The LFS doesn't either. The customer got them from an LFS which has closed down, and they sourced them direct from an importer, as he has tired to get others.

Can anyone be of any help?

Colouration is light brown, which dark brown mottles. Almost like a Cory Jullii, but with a light green/bronze body colour, rather than a pale grey.

Any help[ greatfully appreciated.

Steve

They are not corys, they could be Brochis britskii :) . But from the sound of the colouring and size more likely another type of brochis. I too have seen massive Brochis at the lfs before around 6 inches, but none like the colouring you talked about.

Nope, they weren't brochis, very definatily cory's. Cary's have far less pronounced "armour".

I will go back sometime next week and get photo's if there are no other suggestions before.

steve, y not ask him what they are as well as taking pics? They could just be normal corys which have been well look after. I have rescued some albinos in my time that were boarding on 3" !!

I have never heard of or seen a corydoras that got 5-6" long. Please take some pictures for us to see. Like dwarfgourami said, it might be some type of Scleromystax. These look just like cories, but are not classified under the corydoras. They get a lot bigger then your normal cory.

I saw them(Scleromystax barbatus) in the lfs yesterday. Only around 2.5 inches though, they are definatly one of the things im going to get for my 67 gallon.

Im actually very interested in pictures, then maybe they can be identified and i could get some  .

pictures will be taken as soon as I next visit, which should be on tuesday. If so, pics will be up tues evening.
