My mom has said that she will buy me a large (1-2 gallon) vase with a peace lilly and a brand new betta for the center piece of the high table at my wedding! She told me just to look for it and get it set up and she would pay me back. So, I'm looking for a special one. I want it to be purple, maybe with a white butterfly pattern, although the purple is the important part. I would LOVE a DT, because I've always thought their tails look like hearts when they flare. :) However, that is not a requirement. Does anyone either have a fish like this, or know of where I can get one?

oh, man, I may just have to break the budget a bit. Look at this guy!

that picture looks doctored. notice how everything has a strong purple tinge, not just the betta.

from what i've heard (although i'm not a betta-nut) purple is a difficult and expensive color to find. i'd be very surprised if you could find a true purple on aquabid that's within your price range.

try contacting your local IBC chapter and see if any of the breeders have some purple lines. if so, you could try contacting them and explaining that you just want a pet-quality purple betta. you might get lucky and find someone to strike a deal with.

Personaly, I wouldn't incourage the peace lilly in the vase "craze". I know you that you know they don't feed off the roots and all that, but guests at your wedding might not know that and get the idea and go out and buy one, and of course you'll know what will happen to the betta. But thats just my opinion, maybe you could have the vase without the betta?

I'd have to agree. :flowers:

If you are going to get the vase. Make sure you are feedint normally and cleaning the vase normally. And 1 gallon is to small for a betta. They need at least two gallons.

Well, I'm definitely looking for a 2 gallon vase for it. 1 gallon will work in a pinch, and I have actually kept a couple of happy bettas in 1 gallons. They are all in bigger tanks now and loving it, but they can live happily in 1 gallons, as long as the water is warm and clean. However, I know that bigger would be better, and I'm keeping that in mind while looking for vases.

If anything, I'll have some betta food sitting by the vase so that they know I'm feeding it real food. :)

I didn't know lavender was so hard and expensive. :/ I have seen lavender VTs at Wal-Mart and PetCo before... in fact, my first betta was a lavender VT. :) hmm... I may have to settle for a different color. :/

Lavender isn't a difficult colour to achieve at all, it's the true purples that are so rare and expensive :)
Personally, I'd go for that CT if you like him... I mean hey, it's a special occasion, why not splurge a little? ;)
I don't think the pic is doctored necessarily, just not taken with the best of cameras. Here's what "auto levels" and "auto color" in Photoshop revealed:

I'd have to say that, while putting the betta in a vase with a peace lily might send the wrong message to some people, this is a wedding. :D I think it's a little pessimistic to say that the guests at the wedding will see the vase and immediately think one thing. Especially if Flautist decides to set the food next to the vase. Also, I have to agree with that it's not hard at all to keep a healthy, happy betta in a one gallon tank. You just have to pay attention to them.

is he going to stay in the vase forever?
or just keep him in the vase for the wedding and get him a proper tank when he gets home?

i'd go for that CT!!

also, if you're keeping food by the vase, watch out no over-enthusiastic guests decide he looks a bit hungry...
