i am going to set up a small community tank consisting of small fish such as tetras. i want to be able to put more fish into the tank and want to avaoid the use of catfish.

i know that some plecos eat algae really well and don't grow very big so i won't have a problem with them.

my question is... is there a good small pleco out there that will eat both algae and clean up the leftover food on the bottom of the tank.

i plan on getting neons and we all know ho much food that they can miss. don't get me wrong i still plan on cleaning out the tank during the appropriate times. i just want a pleco to clean up some of the leftover foods so i don't have to clean the tank so often.

i have an emerald cory and a common pleco in my other tank and they are doing a good job. i just want a pleco that doesn't really get to big (5-6" tops) and eats lagae and will clean up a little

*and yes i know cories should be kept in groups but he as alone his whole life and is full grown now (returned to lfs when someone got out of the fish hobby) and didn't take to well to my other cories. as for the common pleco, i plan on rehomeing him to a bigger tank as he grows*

You can try a bristlenose catfish - that should be your "all-in-one" :)

But that said, i'm not entirely sure if a 10 gallon will be large enough - even though they only reach approx 5".

The other option is a few pygmy corys and a couple of otos.

Rubberlip or maybe a Bristlenose though if you have leftover food or too much algae, you're feeding and giving too much light to the tank.

this is what the tank set up probably will be, will this work?

here is my 10 gal idea:

well planted with moss and such. also it will have a sand substrate and caves for the fish to hide in like the other ones. the demensions would be 20" L x 10" W x 13" H (will get measurements asap). i would have a Penguin 150 powerfilter (so i can use when i upgrade my tank later instead of buying a new filter), a EHEIM Jager 50 Watt Aquarium Heater (same idea here for a bigger tank). i don't know what i should do for aeration (i don't know if the filter will do enough of it for me), i plan on having a hood that i can switch over to moonlights and be able to control the brightness.

well i just want to make sure that all of my fish are compatible and that they will all fit without overstocking the tank. i know that all of these fish can/should be able to live in similar water conditions

i will post the fish i want to get and the strata, time of day preferred and "potential" size that they can get, ph, temp, hardness, dietary prefference:

5 jelly bean tetras: middle, diurnal, 1.2", pH 6.0-7.0, 72-79F, 7-12 dH, omnivore

bristlenose pleco: bottom, nocturnal, 4.7", pH 6.2-7.7, 73-84F, 5-19 dH, omnivore

stats of tank will be: pH 6.5-7.0, 75-78F, 10 dH

total length/bioload in inches = 10.7" again i'm a hair over but it won't really hurt much!

Dwarf Suckers!

I'm assuming your talking about 10uk gal, if so then i'd say the following:

L104 L002 L052 L134 L183 L260

You can get them at trimar.co.uk
