Look What I Just Took Delivery Of!

Well, I took the whole thing apart and cleaned it, moving parts actually move again! It was manky  put it all back together again (minus media to test flow rate), attached hoses, filled, put lid on. Had a bucket of water to put the inlet hose in and a 2L pop bottle with enthusiastic child holding the outlet in the end. Got jug and poured water in the inlet hose to fill it up... water starts leaking out from where the handles are  tried turning it on anyway, out splutters a tiny amount of water, lots of noise, nothing else. No suction on the inlet, nothing coming out of the outlet. Tip it incase it's an airlock, more water leaks out... :grr: tried taking hoses off and filling it up further, water's just leaking straight back out again. Kids are looking rather disappointed at this stage. Think they were hoping to see me get wet  and now we're back to I can't get the damned lid off to see if I can figure out how to improve the situation :shout: not impressed.

Cuz carpetting plants like HC or glosso usually require co2 addition. And I suck at remembering to dose liquid.

do you feed the fish daily in the morning? Tape the liquid carbon to the fish food - should help you remember!

No, I feed the fish when I remember. Sometimes it's twice a day, sometimes I miss 5 days. Just depends on the week. I tried a reminder on my phone... it's not working very well...

let's hope only a few people read this, otherwise bang goes your newly applied 'rep'

lmao

It's one of the reasons I like fish - it doesn't matter if I forget to feed them for a few days. Whereas trying to remember to defrost meat for the cats daily... :look: ugh. If I had a pound for every time I'd gone "the cats need feeding... oh -_- " I'd be a millionaire by now! the rawcat group does not like me!

How come you can remember to come on here eveyday but not feed your fish for nearly a week?!

HAHAHAHAHA!!!!

:dunno: I feed the kids... what more do you want from me?!

anyway, you setting up an external filter breeding program or something?

Yeah... it's mainly full of 1200's though for some strange reason... :hey:
Well breed me some babies and I'll happily take them off your hands LOL ;)

Honestly though, dunno what I'm gonna do with this filter. I was hoping I could get it working to pass on to a friend who has a crumby filter in her tank, but it's not looking good :( gonna put the monsters to bed and let the man-wife have a fiddle with it later (had to rewrite that so it didn't sound dodgy :hey: )

APS have 15% off at the mo, tempted to just buy a brand new 1000 and have done with it. £34 and free delivery. Can't sniff at that really, can you?

Yeah i say go for the APS Caz, Whats to lose? £34.00 isn't a great deal of money, you could flog a few plants on here to cover the cost if you wanted. :)

I'm going to start dosing my ferts and liquid carbon tomorrow, looking forward to seeing if there is any real improvements.

I could... or I could keep them to put in the new tank :hey:

You might not see anything straight away - probably give it 1-2 weeks and then see how it's going :)

Which tank you dosing?

I think I'm leaning towards option 1.

I have edited the lists slightly. Thoughts?

180
22 silvertips
22 black neons
1 keyhole
12 habrosus cories or 8 skunk cories
3-4 pitbull plecs
possibly some dwarf cichlids (I know they are a risk with cories, so I'm flexible on this)
3 amano/1ghost shrimps

240
15 crfs
2 hrps
2 angels
3-4 pictus

1ml of each for my 180, undecided on how much to dose my 35L?!

Both your lists sound excellent, you have obviously put alot of thought into them. I want a Keyhole at some point, either that or a pair of Bolivian Rams.

I think dwarf cichlids would work well with Cory's, but you may have to rethink the species of them. ??

Is that the bowfront? Or is the bowfront your 35L?

Reason I ask is that I was dosing 5ml for my 240... and am now dosing 8ml daily after the plant mass increase... but it depends on the plant mass. Ask in the planted section, Ian or Liz or Fred or someone would be able to tell you easily enough, I'm still really new at it so still learning myself!
