I moved my 21 gallon yesterday evening to make room for my new tank (that has just arrived - yippee :D :D ) and this morning my Rusty Plec has a poo that must be 8 - 9 inches long still attached!

Could this be the stress of the move - or as i have also lost 2 rainbows the last 24 hours for no apparant reason (one before the move, one i found this morning) could there be something else at work here.

The water params are fine.

Although the tank has quite a few fish in it, i don't think it is overstocked..

Your thoughts please.....

Thanks

Neil.

oooh i think the poor thing needs a laxative!!!! colonic irrigation maybe????(god forbid) does he eat lettuce/veggies??? thats supposed to help their digestive systems :D

He keeps the tank really clean algae wise, and every other day a drop an algae wafer in there for good measure.

What sort of veggies would help him 'detatch' from his poo? :D

your not telling me its still attatched!!!   :D
scissors?????????
i cant believe im having this conversation really :*)

He (?) is about 6" at the moment.

The poo got to be about 1.5ft before it broke!

It's all gone now, and he seems happier. :D

I used to have a baloon mollie that regulary had a trail of poo at least twice its own length. Some fish just don't like to let go of thier dinner. :kira:

The female betta I got from my roommate's mom, was like that when I first got her. Everytime I checked on her, she had yo-yo like poo trailing behind her. I don't know what they were feeding her, but a week or two on my feeding program(a smidgen of betta pellets in the morning and a bit of dried plankton or blood worms at least once a week) and it cleared up.
She's still a poo monster compared to my male betta, but nothing like she used to be.

Plecs need driftwood to rasp on to help their digestive system - it stops them getting constipated. Do you have any in your tank? If not, you might find a bit will help him. Also fresh veggies - cucumber, courgette, shelled peas, lettuce - all washed well and attached to something to hold them down. Plecs love veggies.

If there was no bubbles or white curly bits in it your probably ok. It depends on what they have been eating, but my Gibbiceps plec used to cover my plants and wood and it looked like a kids party in hell with all that stringy stuff. I actually was syphoning out the tank one day with a battery gravel cleaner and this bit kept coming and coming from under the wood until I realised it was still attatched... Yuck. He wasnt too charmed about this episode either as you can imagine.
