Longest-lasting Equipment

no they dont. lol. but a bigger filter cant hurt. :)
the ac70 is rated for a 70g tank, so it would be fine on a 55, but ive never personally ran anything less than an ac110 on anything over 40G.

A heavily planted tank + African Cichlids + a Plec = a higher turn over filter rate.

Provide Excellent Filtration. We love under gravel filters for African cichlids. But we also see the value in adding extra power filters – especially the canister high-flow rate models. African cichlids eat a lot and therefore excrete a lot. They need a more than adequate filtration system.

Please stay on topic.

My main set up has had the same equipment for years.

An Eheim Pro 3 2080 & 2 FX3's which do a great job, both of these type of filters are really easy to clean & have been running for at least 4 years

Two Fluval 300w heaters I have had ever since I started keeping tropicals (bloody years).

Aquaclear 30 & 70, i've had both of these for 4 years+

My Aquaclear has been running for 4 or 5 years - it does get clogged, and the flow gets seriously reduced after a while, but I just have to clean it in a bucket full of tank water to get running like new again.

I also have Whisper power filters - I'm not too fond of them. They always seem to get their water flow dramatically reduced within a couple weeks, and even if you clean the impeller and such, it does no good. So, since I have two filters, I switch back and forth every couple weeks, that way I have good water flow all the time. (I use established filter media though.)
