Hi all.
I saw this topic in different forum and decided to post the same question here. (originally from HarleyK from monsterfishkeeping)

"What are your favorite brands, what can you rely on? I am not asking for the newest gadget you bought, not for the set-up with the fanciest extras. I also don't want to know what sucks. I want to hear from those of you who have been running one piece of equipment for at least 3 years and would purchase it again if it ever broke (however, hoping it will last for many more years)."

Me:
I'm new to hobby so i only had my Eheim 2213 for 9 month and its running like clockwork.

Whats yours ?

I have a couple AquaClear filters that have been running for around 10 months, and nothing has happened to them...yet...lol.

On filter did get plugged up, which cause the impeller to stop turning for about 12 hours or so. The motor got really hot and everything.

I cleaned everything out, and it ran like new. Pretty good for over-heating for 12 hours.

My Tetra 20 filter has been running since December with no problems. I have had no problems with anything with that tank.

My Aqueon 55... The filter broke after running for 4 hours. :shout: We brought it back to Petco and got it replaced for free because it was defective. The replacement works fine, but be cautious...

my aquaclear 200 filter has been running for 5 years with the original media (sponge and bio) and impeller/shaft/motor.

I haven't invested a penny in that filter in 5 years. I clean it every month or so and it still runs as smoothly and silently as new.

I love Hagen products (Except the Fluval canister filters... they're not that good)

5 years! Nice!

I guess I am set for a while with my AC's! lol

Ehiem canister filters. I've had one running 3 years straight with no hiccups.

For some reason ac's always seem to crap out on me, even the new ones.

My eheim 2226 Was running on the same tank for 4/5 years when my grandad had it and now been running on the same tank for over a year never had a single problem with it yet

Eheim Externals all the way..although have been very impressed with the Fluval FX5 for the 6 months I've had it

I can't remember exactly when I got it, but my Rena Cal heater is at least 10 years old, and has been in constant use ever since. The only problem I've had is that the bracket broke and I had to get a new one. And I got my Hagen Trio internal filter in 2000. That's only had the suckers replaced.

Now I've said that, I've probably jinxed the heater.

My fluval 4+ filter I have had running constantly for about 8 years now, first it was in my large turtle tank and it never failed, now it is in my small turtle tank. Internal filters are not recommended for turtles but I cant fault the fluval 4+

I also have a clearseal tank that was the turtles home for about 15years and now its my little boys community tank, never had any problems with it.

Visitherm heaters here in UK. Do you get them in other countries too? I swear by them. Very accurate and reliable and last years before failing.

my oldest aquaclear110 (formerly aquaclear500) is just about 9 years old now, and still kickin. the others are between 2 and 4 years old

That's awesome!

I need to get a 110 for my 55 gallon tank, as the 70, IMO, just ain't cutting it anymore. My fish are getting bigger, and I am adding more fish.

Plus, they are Cichlids, which require a higher turn over filter rate.
