Llj's Filterless Ada

Wow! Love this scape. I prefer stones to wood most of the time. I see TOTM in your future!

love the look of this now llj...i reckon it'll be a stunner when you've left it to it's own devices, very natural. Have you got any stocking in it yet?

:) looks great! :good: you wanna come sort mine now?!

Caz, I'd love to be in a position one day where I can come over and help you sort your tank out. :D But I think you'll be great without me.

Nah, if I do TOTM, it's with the Marine systems. I should do the planted Marine this month. I'll clean it and do a photoshoot. But thank you for your kind words.

Wow, it looks amazing now that it has matured slightly. Well done :good:

Thanks, honestly, I've completely ignored this tank. This is what I wanted to do in the first place. When you've been at it as long as I have, the pruning and hacking gets really old.

Thanks, means a lot coming from you guys. :D That's the plan, to just leave it to its own devices. I'm tired of pruning. Believe me, you'll get tired of pruning too after a while. Hahaha, I got a few years on the hobby over you!

No, no stocking yet, Ian, only the survivors from the cats, so like 5 fish. What I'd like to do is purchased fish from the American Livebearer's Association convention. I need to fill out my paperwork and pay the dues for the club. I'd like to pick up a nice small livebearer. I gotta start dosing. What's that ADA all-purpose that you raved about? The liquid one. I may get it. I'll run out of TPN+ soon.

I'm so over pruning, it's not even funny. It's spreading pretty well, but I need to add some ferts. :) It'll do better then.

Any updates Liz?

Hey,

Yeah and what an update. This tank will be taken down by summer's end, probably much sooner. It's growing pretty well. Some BBA on the the sag leaves, nothing much to report. But...

I'm done with Planted tanks, at least while I live in Miami. The livestock is terrible, fish choice is limited, and I'm frustrated rehashing the same thing over and over again because I don't see the point in spending Hundreds on quality plants and equipment, when I can pick up a quality acan frag for $15.

The point is, if I were in the UK, or in a better US location, I'd still continue with planted tanks, but I'm not, and I'm not going to continue to frustrate myself and not be satisfied with the tanks that I turn out. There's only so much I can do with crypts and sags and moss.

So, this tank will be taken down and converted to yet another Marine tank. Marine in Miami is like Planted in the UK, thriving. Quality Livestock and equipment are pretty easy to come by and cheap. I can create beautiful tanks and sell excess corals to hobbyists. I actually have fellow Marine hobbyists in Miami, planted hobbyists are much harder to come by.

It's an end of an era and I do this with mixed feelings and some sadness. Six years is a long time. I've done planted tanks with good success and I'm still doing them. That Marine planted tank is going strong and shows now sign of dying down, so I'm still a planted person, technically, sort of. Just not a freshwater planted person anymore. :(

Sorry, if this wasn't the update you were looking for. I'll still totally check up on everybody's journals and smack people on the head when they're not doing right. :)

Haha, I'd expect no less, Ian. I am going to the AGA convention, so who knows what that'll bring? I was inspired last time I went, but it's in St. Louis this year so no big ticket items because I can't lug it back. But if they ship... Tom Barr will be there and he's kept planted marines, so I'm sure we'll actually have something to say to each other.

Its a shame Liz, looked back over your tanks and some are amazing, my fav is the dutch but hope to see some in the future maybe. :)
