Llj's Filterless Ada

Got up a little earlier than usual to get ready for work and found this...

Hahaha! One of the reasons why I think corydoras are going to work very well for this tank...

Yeah, I new type of fuzzy algae.

You know she's sitting her butt right on the aquaclear filters, right? Part of the reason for going filterless. She's also taken to parking herself right on the light fixture. A disaster waiting to happen. You can train her to not go on it, but if I scare her off, that'll be bad news. She needs too know that she's not allowed on it, but I can't use scare tactics.

Tricky, tricky.

Pressure pad and a buzzer on top :) soon learn lol

I used water to teach my cat not to get on top of things. I would use a plant spray and every time she did something I did not like, I would spray some water on her. Worked marvelously.

Yes, this works great under normal circumstances, but if I do that while she's on top of a light fixture or a filter, her running can knock down the lighting. So, no scare tactics. Right now, I can pretty much get her to get off by just looking at her. At the most, a nice, low "Lily..." is all she needs, but I can't stay awake 24/7, so that's why we are going with corydoras!

Sticky stuff, sticky side up. Double sided tape would work, or some jiggery pokery with some sticky backed plastic. They don't like the feeling of walking on the sticky stuff, you don't have to use scare tactics... win win :D

Just to add my comment, our cat is obsessed with my cory tank. He watches the apistos and tries to stare them down, but he goes for the cories every time they do their bounce to the surface thing. He now spends most of the night sat in front of the cories tank.

He's proven somewhat difficult to disabuse of this habit.

Well, disaster happened. It was Lily, the pretty white one. She managed to bolt from the light fixture that she was sitting on and she broke the legs that mount the fixture. We managed to save the fixture and the tank isn't broken, nor were any fish electricuted.

I did have to purchase a glass tank cover for the tank, though. It's not quite large enough, though I managed to get it on and sit the light on top. I'll be constructing a more sturdy set of braces for the tank. If the idea works, I'll post what I do. Should be an interesting project.

The only bonus, the tank tank will be now covered and I can put what I want in it. :D I'll be doing the rescape today after work. Need to. Have to make more RO water for SW tanks and I need this done.

Would love a small danio species. Ooooooooo, so many options now.

That's what happens with cats; once they choose a favourite place, it is difficult to change their mind . But well, now you have your glass cover and can get your danios! Glowlight danios or cpd's are very obvious, but what about danio tinwini (gold ring danio)? Since you are planning on planting it heavily, I think it would look superb!

I'll have to check. A lot of danios are not available locally, so I'll have to see what I can find. My only drawback is that my substrate is light, not dark. I also don't know how much juice the Koralias have yet. It may be too much for a smaller danio, though I don't think so.

Lovely fish, though.

I still do like the catfish, though. Nice use of sand.
