For those of you who have seen organisms come off of your live rock, what have you seen and how long did it take before you started seeing stuff?

We put all ours (200 pounds) in yesterday and the only thing Ive seen are some teeny tiny clearish white bugs moving around on the bottom but havnt seen them since right after we put them in.

I found a crab and a bristleworm in the box as I was putting the rock in the tank...

Other than that, feather dusters within about an hour.

Yeah she mentioned some of the stuff we would probably see and feather dusters were one of them, I see none of that stuff. Kind of dissapointed.

You've seen pods though and that's a good sign (the white things)

Give it time and you'll start to see loads you can bet on it :D

We got mostly Tonga and some Fiji, since I forgot to add that to my original post.

So what are pods...they were so small we almost missed them but there were at least 3.

How long would you estimate? I keep staring at all the rocks whenever I walk by lol!

I didn't get much on my lr. was it shipped or did u receive it right from the tank it was bought from. I have had mine 5 months and have only seen 3 snails, a nudibranch, a couple small polyp patches and today I saw a small coral. The key is to be patient, I didn't see anyhting until 4 or 5 weeks after I received the rock, although I bought mine online and there was a delay in shipping and it took 5 days before I received the rock which had something to do with it. But there will be stuff on it garunteed (especially when you have 200lbs) , you jut have to be patient

ive had my live rock in about a week about 5and half kilo's and ive seen the following numerous little clear shrimpy type bugs(may be pods? ) 4 crabs, 1 feather duster, 1 worm that comes out at night about 20mm long(tube worm perhaps) also various patches of sponge like growths brown and black, and 1 pink cone like thing with 2 little pointed ears on top(sorry only way can describe it lol) best time to look at night with lights out with torch

im sure you will find loads if you really look

As is said 'The only thing thats happen fast in Marine Keeping is Mistake'

Give your rock time :look:

sounds good guys thanks! As far as where we got it, it was at the LFS we go to. Right out of their tubs of Live Rock.

Things will slowly start to crawl out of the rocks over the next few days.
For the life-time of the tank you'll see something new everyday if you look carefully.
I've only 16lbs and i've seen lot's of different things :D

update. Its now been a little over 2 weeks and this morning I found my first LR Hitch Hiker.

Aiptasia.

Figures! :sly:

Can we just yank it out?

Don't pull it!!!!!!

Any broken bits will grow into new Aptasia - this is the biggest mistake people make and it can turn a few pest anenomes into an invasion within weeks

Have a look using the forum search tool for posts regarding them, there's quite a few

And check the pinned topic in the nano section :)

Try to lure the aptasia down to the substate, it is a nem, so it can move. Mine went down to the sand after food I think and I sucked it out with a turkey baster, luck me is the only one ive ever seen in my tank.
