Live Rock Hitchhikers

i don't have a saltwater aquarium but i have a small like 2-3 galloon container i have some pieces of coral reef in. there was a coral reef a mile or so off shore of a place i went to in south carolina. i LEGALLY and SAFELY collected small pieces of clam shells stuck together and stuff like that. The only hitchhikers i have got is 3 egg clutches of some sort (wich i think may be some type of clam thing) and barnacles. Barnacles are awesome! :D

Anyone ever had a mantis shrimp thats hitch hiked on live rock?? I've been reading up about them alot recently, and the lfs I'm doing work experience has one. I think their awesome, and if i had the space and was allowed to, i would set up a tank for one :D .

Read me above post, yes ive had one!

I got the usual sorts of things plus lots of zooanthids, three crabs (2 of which didn't survive cycling), a tiny blue starfish and my favourite- a mantis shrimp. I have a cool bryozoan that has sprouted on one rock, but that may have come from the water (I collect it fresh).

The most interesting things I have gotten are some little stars, various polyps and a couple varities of kelp. Actually, there is a little guy that I'm sure what it is...it sorta looks like a clam, but also like a coral. I'm still learning about species and stuff in saltwater.

I've also gotten the aiptasia and coralines. One cool thing is I got a clam and some barnacles on a couple hermit crab shells I bought from the LFS tank. I had just wanted about a dozen shells for the crabs to grow into and two came with that...pretty cool. No crabs have taken those shells, yet.

I'm hoping for some more cool stuff as I get more rock...I only have 5 pieces as of yet.
