USA,
My little Emma is very sick. She is having bloody diarehia, a fever and dyhidration. She has been at the vets and has gotten spunky, but she wont eat, and is loosing weight. He thinks she has feline distemperment. Im nevrvous that she does, as she may die, and I dont want to have her be put down, shes still a baby, and Ive only had her 8 days, 1/2 of them she has been living at the vets. But the vet is supprised that she is still hanging in. She only vomited twice though, on the way home, and after being feed.

I know that if she does have this and gets better and after 1 year she should be fine, but what about the other cats? I know they get their shots, but could they still get that from her?

They should be ok as long as they have their shots. I hope you cat gets ok. I know how you feel. I have been through the ringer when it comes to sick animals and I know what you are going though...

I know, I read your posts, you had alot die.

Emma did have her shots for the distemperment, can she still pick it up though?

She wasnt a stray or anything, we got her from a petshop, how could she have gotten this?

We are going to visit her today at 1, the vet did some blood tests on her, so hopefully he will have some results by then.

All fingers and toes crossed.

Well I'm afraid it's very easily picked up from the parents or any other cats. The parents might have been in contact with other infested (roaming) cats and so transferred it unfortunately.

Please therefore make very sure that you keep any of your other cats indoors if they've been in contact with the kitten and can transfer it to other cats outside. Get the all clear from the vet first.

But lets hope for the best !!!

my cats are indoor cats, molly cat sit on the deck, but peaches will run away, so she always stays in side, and gets jealous of molly and bites her ears

If you got the kitten from a pet shop then it is very easy for it to get this and any other disease going. People walks in with germs on them from other animals if you know my meaning. I always take a animal when I buy it straight to the vet. I hope that it gets ok. I am crossing my fingers for it. Please let us know how it is doing.. :(

Actually - on a side note - I would most certainly contact the pet shop and let them know. If there were other kittens, they can hopefully contact the other owners too.

we did, and all the kittens were still there and doing fine.

The cats are located in a back room pf the shop with a window, though people do get to hold them. We visited Emma three days in a row before we got her.

I got two other cats from petshops, 1 was perfectly fine as she was in there for one day and we got her, the other one was in there for the on day, as soon as they came in we went to see them and decided to get one of them and she was tajken to a back room so that noone else would touch her or want to buy her. She did get sick though,m she had bloody diariah and basically all the same symptons, except hers was bacterial.

Emma's fever is really high 105 and it wont go down. Do either of you know if there is anything or any way to bring down her fever? It seems like if she gets over the fever she should be better. Would the fever make her not want to eat and drink as well?

Only some shots from the vet could really help to reduce fever. Whatever you do, do not give it any asprin or human medications (I'm sure you know that but just stating the obvious) - it's fatal in most cases.

Just have plenty of fresh water available and try and keep her as cool as possible. Perhaps a small fan in the room, but not directly on her.

It's absolutely normal for her not to eat or drink under those circumstances, but if it's that bad, she should be on a drip with IV fluids at the vets....

she is at the vets, we are going to visit her soon. She has an IV drip, but her fever is still highg. The vet said that the shots arent good for all cats.

I really want her fever to go down so she can get better and come home, but it seems like that may not hapen anytime soon. :(

actually, it may not have been a shot that the vet was talking about, when we go to see her maybe Ill mention those.

also, they said she is anemic because of the blood lose from her diariah, would there be something that can help fix that for such a young, 10 -11 week old cat?
