Limescale On Outside Of Glass

Hi,
Please can someone help me??
I have a 'new to me' tank and it has dried scale stains running down the outside of it. I have soaked and soaked and soaked it in lemon juice and vingear and used salt on it and it has helped a lot but it is so stuck on that it looks like it has stained the glass and I can't get any more of it off.
Never mind the fact that it could indicate a leak, but it looks so unsightly and I really want to remove it so that I can fll it up and get cycling!
I have read about trying a sharp blade on it, but where we have most of it off, like I said, it looks and feels like it is in the glass rather than on it, so a blade would be no good. (Not to mention disasterous for someone like me)!

An expedient for lime scale removal in the US is any one of the many lime scale cleaning aids such as CLR.
