I have just bought a second hand Juwel Rio 300 for my four guppies, three silver tipped tetra and three zebra danios :fun: It has two light tubes in it one is daylight and the other is warm white, is this the correct comdination ? could i use two daylight tubes? (maybe they would look better)is there a better combination to bring out the colours of the fish and do i need to buy the £18 tubes from the LFS or could i use the £2 tubes from the electrical wholesalers sorry for all the Qs just a thought could i use black light to make the fish "shine" or would it not be good for them?

If you are not growing plants you can certainly use the lights from a hardware store. Some fish may not look good under a warm white bulb but that is up to you to decide which looks best.

Thanks for that, would i need to add another tube for the blacklight as well as the two already there or just replace one of the existing tubes? Could the blacklight damage the fish if it was on all the time,

I was actually kidding about the black light though you could use it to enhance or make the fish glow. Yes they are completely safe. If you decide to use one just replace the warm white bulb and keep the full daylight bulb.

Well very few experienced fish keepers want their fish to glow unaturally. It looks cool but unatural. Instead of a black light you can use one of the tubes designed for marine tanks with 10K or higher color temperature.
