Not quite sure this constitutes an emergency but 6 month old Juwel Vsion 180 tank, with stock lighting, tonight the lights just went out. Thought it could have been the timer it was on so plugged direct into socket and the lights come on and then go off almost straight away. Left them for a while in case it was an overheating problem but still the same. So no lights at the moment, guess I'll get on to Juwel tomorrow but in the mean time any advice for things to check?

Cheers,

keith

Any blackness on the tube.
Also i would replace them with a better make, juwel light are to yellow, and you will look better with anothr make, shows the fish colours up better.

Hi Wilder,

Just checked and yes one of the tubes has black rings round each end, when I switch the lights on they just flicker then die. Am I right in guessing the tubes have failed, if one goes do both light stop? If this is the case then I'll replace with some arcadia ones, I was going to at some point but never got around to it :(

Cheers,

Keith

Yes mine have black rings around them when they gone, and they flicker on and off then die, not sure if they both go when one goes.
But to be hoenst they not very nice bulbs for tanks anyway, better off replacng them with proper tanks lights much nicer.

Phew, here was me thinking new housing and allsorts, I'll get hold of an arcadia freshwater and a tropical tube tomorrow.

Thanks again.

Keith

If one goes - both will appear not to work. However, as it's on a circuit, it's just one that needs replacing.

However some potential bad news - starter unti problems often start with flickering. If that goes it's around £50 to replace (for the full Juwel unit that fits the tank).

Cheers, bet you're a wow at partys ... I'm confident it's just the tube...crossing fingers and anything else that can cross. Having said that if it is the unit then as it's only 6 months old back to Juwel!

Changed the bulbs and were back in action. Glad it wasn't the unit!
