I'm about to purchase my first "big" tank, and have a choice of two spots in my house. The first is in my living room, where the tank would make an ideal focal point. The second is in the playroom/family room.

The problem with the living room is that it's a very light room, with windows on 3 sides of the room. Will this cause increased algae growth? The spot the tank would go in wouldn't get any direct sunlight, just a lot of natural light.

Thanks for any advice.

You battle the algae with products like PhosBan and an algae scrubber.

If it isn't in direct sunlight, you should be fine. I have both my 29 and 75 gallon tanks in the living room and they do fine. The 75 gallon is only 3 feet from a triple window but is not in direct sunlight.

Thanks for the replies I think I'll take a chance on the living room.
