LOL, Barry you make me laugh and not many people do, so thank you
My neighbours are terrified of me because I freak out all the time because half the stuff I have is made in China and it never works properly or is made poorly. I am always yelling abuse and saying cheap Chinese crap, but I usually add a few more words.
Stuff that is made in China is made for a throw away society. It is not always well designed or engineered and built to be cheap so consumers buy lots of it. The quality control there isn't the same as in most countries and they really don't care. Big companies around the world (Kmart, BigW, Target, etc) want stuff as cheap as possible so customers buy heaps of stuff. They don't really care if it falls apart after 6 months.

If the light units are kept cool, they last longer. This applies to all electronic items, the cooler they run, the longer they last. Humidity also destroys electronics, so you could be struggling a bit due to the heat and humidity. However, good quality products should still last for quite a few years.

As for your light, most light units are covered by a 12 month warranty so you should be able to return them (assuming you have the receipt), and have the item replaced or refunded.
If you can find lights made in Japan or Germany, they would be much better quality compared to stuff made in China, but you might be stuck with cheap Chinese products if that is all the local shops sell.
Even if you do get good quality items from other countries, they regularly contain parts that are made in China.
One option is to find an electrician and get them to wire up some lights, or do it yourself, but be very careful so you don't electrocute yourself.
