Hi

I need light for my blackwater tank as the old one broke any recommendations?

Also why are the Chinese stuff so poorly made? This is the 7th light in this year
I really hate the “made in china” stuff seriously, can’t they make a better things?
(Notes that in Thailand there’s only china stuff like light and filter :/ )

What light are you using @Fishmanic @NCaquatics

LOL, Barry you make me laugh and not many people do, so thank you :)

My neighbours are terrified of me because I freak out all the time because half the stuff I have is made in China and it never works properly or is made poorly. I am always yelling abuse and saying cheap Chinese crap, but I usually add a few more words.

Stuff that is made in China is made for a throw away society. It is not always well designed or engineered and built to be cheap so consumers buy lots of it. The quality control there isn't the same as in most countries and they really don't care. Big companies around the world (Kmart, BigW, Target, etc) want stuff as cheap as possible so customers buy heaps of stuff. They don't really care if it falls apart after 6 months.

-----------------------
If the light units are kept cool, they last longer. This applies to all electronic items, the cooler they run, the longer they last. Humidity also destroys electronics, so you could be struggling a bit due to the heat and humidity. However, good quality products should still last for quite a few years.

-----------------------
As for your light, most light units are covered by a 12 month warranty so you should be able to return them (assuming you have the receipt), and have the item replaced or refunded.

If you can find lights made in Japan or Germany, they would be much better quality compared to stuff made in China, but you might be stuck with cheap Chinese products if that is all the local shops sell.

Even if you do get good quality items from other countries, they regularly contain parts that are made in China.

One option is to find an electrician and get them to wire up some lights, or do it yourself, but be very careful so you don't electrocute yourself.

I remember when someone bought huge fake Lego sets as a souvenir and you know where he got it from? China...

And nope...they won’t let me return it.

That is disappointing they won't let you return the faulty item. :(

We have fake Lego here too. You can tell it's fake because the colour of the mini figures is a slightly different yellow and most of the mini figures are military or Police figures. Lego doesn't do military stuff apparently, they think it's too violent for kids.

Having said that, I do own some fake Lego from China. I was looking for white base plates for a Xmas scene and Lego didn't sell them. I looked on Ebay and got a bunch of them sent over from China. They were very cheap and look the same as Lego, they just don't have the Lego stamp on them.

I contacted Lego before I bought them from China and Lego said "sorry we don't have anything like that". After I bought them from China I contacted Lego again and suggested they make white base plates so people could buy genuine Lego. I said they already have the moulds for the base plates, just use a white plastic instead of blue or green. Well, a month later Lego and all the stores around here suddenly had white base plates for sale.

I like the Lego company, they are quite responsive to their customers and they have used some of my ideas. :)

Yep, I remember buying white base plate, I was so happy back then cause Lego never made them.

So, what’s your favorite Lego theme?

Simple reason for your China question - COST....how much we consumers want to pay for stuff....China has made itself the worlds manufacturer of stuff....if you were going to produce a widget and want to make the most profit you would go to China and have them actually make it, you would then add your logo and the then sell it. Or you can have a US manufacturer make it for you but the cost of the item will be more than consumers are willing to pay for....and of course there's lots more nuances but thiat's the simple economics of it....Another aspect is you get what you pay for...hence it's worth read product reviews...I tend to read all of them both good and bad then make a decision.... a visit to any Kickstarter project would be very enlightening..as far as learning about the world economy....I hope I haven't overloaded you, take care and good luck with your light search.:)

For blackwater, just get something that works, doesn't need to be strong for plants as theres not many plants in blackwater as it is and those that are there are low light

I would find a fluorescent light fixture from a hardware store and use that, one marketed for people rather than for fish

I was building a Ninjago scene but stuff wasn't available. Then I tried to do a Chinese New Year festival but there were problems with the couriers being unable to deliver the sets, and they won't leave items at the house unless someone is here to sign for them. Subsequently, my New Year theme went south and I never got the sets.

I am now trying to build my Xmas scene but Lego hasn't had any of the sets I want for over 3 months. They claim they have been making the sets but apparently I am never online when they have them for sale. I check their website most days. I have missed heaps of sets because of this issue and I have let Lego know I am not happy.

I really am sick and tired of looking at their website and not being able to buy stuff. At the same time there are people on Ebay selling dozens of the sets I want and there is meant to be a limit on 2 sets per household. Lego claims they don't know how people are getting dozens of these sets, which has to be a lie. They have limits and numbers on their computers and if you order 3 sets, a big red flag comes up on the screen and says you have ordered too many and can only have 2. You literally can't buy more than 2 sets, so someone at Lego has to be letting people buy sets to sell on Ebay. Alternatively it is Lego selling the sets using private accounts.

Right now my Lego is packed up because I am upset about not being able to get sets.

@Colin_T Don't give up!
