Lifting 6Ft X 2Ft X 2 Ft Tank

Got to admit... I am still dubious as to if this will work you will need more than 2 people....

Good luck with the stand - there is a lot of info on the net but personally I would just pay someone lol...

6x2x2 tank is a 180 gal and should weight empty 282 lbs. (128 kg). That will take two very strong persons to lift. 4 people is more like it.

I have to say, I appreciate the complement.  :flex:

A friend of mine and myself moved a tank just a bit smaller than this 6'x18"x22".  It was heavy.  No denial.  Fortunately, we didn't have to lift it and move it very far.  We moved it from its location, to a cart, rolled it down a hallway, and then placed it onto its 'final resting place'.  It wasn't the worst thing I've ever had to move, but it was the most NERVE racking.  Having four guys can be a help, and a hinderance, IMHO.  If you are moving it through wide open spaces, having four is good.  If you are moving through narrow spots, you'd really be best with the two strongest moving it, and the others kind of 'spotting'.

Just a quick update the tank is being deliver tomorrow morning. I ordered a courier to pick it up and at last min he told me his whole van is 6ft so he let me down. So yesterday i had to look for a new courier. I have paid 15 pound extra for this other courier . He is gonna use "tools" to lift it. There are two of them who are gonna lift it. With the other courier i would have to help but he let me down so now paying 15 pound more to get a new courier who is offering another pair of hands is good i think.
Here is two photos

12mm glass is a killer!

I got mine, double based from ND aquatics and we couldn't even move the thing!

Maybe we're just weak, haha.

Ended up putting it on some wood and sliding into the house. We couldn't even lift the thing more than a few inches so we had to used wood to pivot it up onto the bricks where it was going to rest.

Nightmare!

Since then, people have indeed suggestied suction grips to me, used to move big pieces of glass.

With suction grips tho if they come lose then the tank gets damaged. Also if the tank is like 20 stone the suction cups will not make it weight less. I am hoping i will be able to say to the courier i want it here and then leave the front door open and let them do the rest. Has i mentioed up above i have a 4ft tank 4x 1.5x 1.5  with 5 mm glass and two of us have to lift that to move it around so i feel so sorry for these courier's . I think the plan is to lift it out of the van onto some rollers and then roll it to my front door then they will have to lift it up my steps to the house and then lift it up my stairs so 2 lots of stairs. If it gets into my house ill post some images. There is also a sump coming with it.The thing is has well there gonna put it on the floor and i will have to build a table out of bricks and then find some most people to lift it onto the stand haha

Im terrorfied now, im looking at a 5x2x2 tank today with 10mm glass so hopefully 3 men, and little weak me cam lift it into my house ;-)

Its really not that bad.  My 6'x18"x22" tank has 10mm glass (actually just a bit less, as its 3/8").  Two able bodied men (myself and a friend) were able to handle it just fine in my case.

Having a few extra hands in place for the purpose of ensuring that if someone gets fatigued they can be relieved and you will be fine.  The biggest key is to CLEAR THE AREA!!!  No unnecessary obstacles.  No last minute change of plans.  Have the area you are going to set-up the tank be ready and waiting with no obstructions on the way to it, and map out the EASIEST (not necessarily the shortest) path to that location.

If you can place it on a cart for part of the journey, do so, but be sure to limit any "bumps" along the way - and cushion the tank.

I wanna get a 5ft tank later this year, but have stairs. so will have to see how this goes before i decide if im gonna get one or not.

hope all goes well and keep us posted.

The tank is arriving around 11 am tomorrow so ill post on how it goes and upload a few images

The tank has a little crack in the silcone so gonna lay the tank on the floor till i build a stand and reseal it. I am hoping all does well because i have a lot of steps ..... i am also guessing that the center bit of the fish tank the overflow will be able to connect to a pipe ?? From the images it just looks like a big hole

I hav a 4 x 2 x 2 and getting that into my house was a nightmare. It was sooo heavy.

We ended up going to Bunnings/B&Q and getting a little flat rolling trolley, type of things mechanics lay on to slide under cars, and put it on that to move it along the flat ground, and when we had three stairs to go up we angled it up the stairs, slid the trolley out at the bottom end and then slid it back under at the top once we pushed it up the three steps. We kept it on the trolley to manouvre it Through the house. I am not by any means a 'weak' person but it was too heavy for me. My brother came to help lift it from the trolley up onto the cabinet. There was no way me and my partner could have lifted it on our own without extra help.

I hope it goes well for you!

Well the tank should be here in around 3 - 4 hours we are doing the same thing were gonna lift it of the van onto the trolly and then push it to the front door. The "try" and lift it up the steps. I will update ere after it has been delivered. I just hope it does not get stuck on the van -_-

A tank at my lfs was a 6x2x2, 12mm, starphire...from memory it was in excess of 250kg. You're gonna need a bigger boat.

6x2x2 is very possible to move with 2 people. My 180gal tank about 275kg empty and had no problem moving with 2 people.
I had to go down 2 sets of stairs if had more people they would make it harder as stairs were fairly narrow.
once you get tank in place and setup all the work to get tank in is MORE then worth the effort.
good luck with tank
