Can anyone advise me of how long guppys, platy, plecs and blackmoor goldfish can live for?
Also, I need some advice on what easy maintenance/hardy/disease resistent fish to mix with my current crew.
I have 3 guppy, 3 platy and 1 plec with a blackmoor, and I know the Blackmoor is a bad mix but I am also needing advice on what size tank I need for him...he is currently about 5 inches long.
Also should I provider some company for him in his new home?

What size is your current tank?

Your guppies and platies should live to be between three and five years old, the plec and the black moor more like 15-20 years, or even more.

The black moor needs a tank that is about 100l, but it would be best if he had a friend or two, as goldfish are very social, so you'd need a 150l for two, or 180l for three.

The plec really needs something like a 4'x18"x18" minimum, as they can get very big indeed; easily over a foot long.

I've never had a guppy (never kept platies but I imagine the time scale is similar) that lasted more than 7 years but as I understand it, that's an exceptional age. My granddad has a plec that's 30 something years old and my Dad has a red cap Oranda (similar to the Black Moor) that's nearly 20. Do err on the side of caution with the plecs. If it's a common plec they'll easily get up to 50cm. My Granddad's must be at least 45cm, just to give you some idea.

Fluttermoth has given some stella minimum guidelines for the goldfish, but indeed the plec needs a tank that's well over 4 feet long and 1.5 feet wide with strong glass, too - especially if they want to throw their weight about!
