LFS's

i have petsmart and petco but i prefer petsmart...cleaner, friendlier, cheaper, and the workers seem to know more

Aquarium Adventure, Dublin, Ohio
Beautiful, healthy tanks, great selection, knowledgable staff. HIGH prices.

Petsmart, Dublin, Ohio
Healthy tanks, decent selection, surprisingly good staff (2 of the 3 were at least). Great prices.

I try to balance my buying from both.

There's a place called Byerly's in Columbus that is supposed to be great, but the one time I went in, I was actively ignored by their staff for 30 minutes.

I go to Eddie's...in Latham, NY....on Saturdays, I leave my husband with the kids and my sister and I go to Eddie's to stalk the fishies...

DiVer...I don't know where Salem is- but if you're heading to Saratoga- hit Rt. 9 south and drive a little further down from Saratoga to Latham...Eddie's is much better than Benson's...
We have a Benson's in Clifton Park and their fish tanks always have at least 3 dead fish in them- not very well cared for...

It's at a garden centre called Tall Trees and it's got friendly staff, happy to help and advise and all that, the tanks are always fairly clean, good prices (cheap plants and fish), a decent range of fish. I usually go there for fish and plants, but I get the other stuff (water testing kits, my algae magnet, stuff like that) from Pets At Home cos they haver cheaper things like that... but I don't like the way they keep their tanks  . I'm not sure whereabouts it is, it's near Burton Joyce.

In Colchester I've been to -

Swallow Aquatics - specialist aquatic shop, loads of choice with a few guys who really know their stuff. Really clean tanks too. Where I get most fish from.

Seapets - general pet shop with loads of aquatic stuff, a big choice of fish in clean, well presented tanks. Staff aren't as knowledgable as Swallow staff but alway keen to help.

Dolphin Aquatics - small shop run by middle aged couple. Quite a cluttered little shop but good value. They will answer questions all day.

Pets At Home - used to be PetsMart, exactly the same but a new name. Small choice of fish, no real specialist knowledge, cheap supplies though.

Betta Aquatics (Capel St Mary) - small shop stuck on the end of a garden centre. Clean tanks, helpful staff, just a bit too far for me to go to get fish.

There are a few more around the area but I haven't bothered going to any of them. A bit spoilt for choice really.

I go to Big Al's here in Toronto, their staff is more friendlier and knowledgeable and they sell pretty much all kinds of fish :D

Salem is right on the Vermont border, its a really small town. I don't think I've ever seen a dead fish in the Saratoga Benson's and they're tanks are always clean (mabye they have better staff :dunno: ) but I'll check out Eddie's sometime.

Here in Montreal I go to Big Al's. They always have a pretty good choice of fish in clean tanks.
They have specials every now and then too that can't be beat.
Another good place is Nature in Lasalle. They are knowledgable and get some different fish in quite often.

Ive been tall trees aswell once, got 4 honey gouramis from there. They all died (Mum's fault!!) I also go Pet and Aquatics in bulwell and Pet world (joined with Focus) Both good!!

we have a petsmart, a local owned called north waco tropical fish (nwtf), a walmart, and one other local owned, but i forget the name. and, we are getting a petco soon.

i go to petsmart for supplies, and nwtf for fish. every fish i have bought at petsmart, except 1, has died. my first 3 fish, i got at nwtf, are still living, and getting big. i got them they were little, now almost fuill grown- in a month's time. also, nwtf has better prices.
the one place that i can't remember, has dirty, overstocked tanks. he also doesn't want to sell too many fish, as almost all his tanks have no prices on them. he has signs all over the place that say if there is no price tags on a tank, the fish are not for sale. he does have an impressive tank at the back of his shop that is huge, with all kinds of fish- a 5-yr old clown loach, some oscars, some bala sharks that are 8" or so in size, and other fish. i would not buy from him though. he also sells reptiles, and their supplies.

South Bay Tropicals - Locally owned store that specializes in fish/reptiles/birds. A bit pricey, but I was able to talk my way into a good deal on a 10 gal and stand. The place to go around here if you're going to do a saltwater set up or to find harder to find items, like Bio Spira, etc.

Priced Rite Pets and Supplies - They specialize in Tropical fish. I've been there once and refuse to go again. It's even more expensive than South Bay Tropicals, the tanks are dirty and the store smells like urine.

Petco - The staff, from what I have seen, isn't very knowledgable and there's almost always something wrong with the tanks (incompatible mates, dead fish, dirty tanks, etc). Prices are reasonable, but their selection and stock is limited. I don't like shopping there, but it's closer than Petsmart, has more supplies than wal-mart, and is cheaper than the locally owned shops, so in a pinch I do go there.

Wal-mart - Won't buy fish there, but the prices on decorations/plants and some accesories are cheaper than other places.

Petsmart - My favorite place to go for fish stuff and the only place I've been that I will buy fish. They have a wide selection of fish and clean tanks. Fairly knowledgeable staff as well. Nice big selection of supplies as well.

I really like my lfs  , (much better than the walmart I used to go to) it is called carters pet mart and tropical fish, on march lane in stockton, california. They have a wonderful array of fish, :fish: which all seem healthy :flex: , (although I saw a sick lil betta once :-( ) Most of the employees are very nice, and helpful. They 3/4 of the store is fish or fish related, but you can also pick up dog food while ur their

Something Fishy Rt 5, in Scotia NY

I have not been to PetSmart yet but I am looking forward to going as soon as my new tank is ready to add fish!
Eddie's can't be too far too travel either. Maybe DH and I will take a trip one day to check it out!

Have any of you been to Something Fishy? I thought it was great at first, but now I know they could have been much more helpful by sending me home with a dechloirnator and by telling me why I needed to cycle my tank. The owner told me 24 hours was enough.
Just wondering if anyone had been to that store and had a similar experience.
