Lfs Needs Reality Check.

Finished on site early today so stopped in at a LFS which was on the way home.Haven't been in for awhile.

They want £12.50 for a Panda cory (yes each) and £18.50 for a 1" Apisto Agazzii 'Fire Red'.

Seems a bit steep to me.

Mmmm not really unfortunately, both corys and apistos have shot up hugely in price this year, its why there are so few available this year.

I mean, easy to produce and fast (ish) breeding species like the albino, bronze and pepper cories will be at a more sensible price but those where there are less being bred or they take longer to get to a sensible size to retail them at... the price is going to shoot up.

I mean... those are pretty steep prices but not exceptionally so, was it an indepentant or a chain store? Independants might not get same discounts for large orders that a chain store might get... pushing prices up...

For a Panda Corydora that is expensive, but I'd pay £18.50 for Apistogramma agazzi if it was wild caught or only a few generations old from wild stock.

Was at a fish shop too today and seen what was labelled as a "new cw51 cory" and was £25 each.
Was nice looking but not £25 nice

i paid £15 for mu upside down catfish then found that they had them for £7 at time for pets.

Ouch, I felt hard done by when I ended up paying £7 each for some tiny (<1 inch) of these mid summer, but as I needed more to up my original group from last November I bit the bullet. Just recently seen them at ~£4, but they are seasonal in availability.

Indie.The peppered were just under a fiver.

Didn't ask if the Agazzi was wild caught, but they did have exceptional colour, especially when a lot of other dwarf cichlids were very washed out.Their Bolivians were white.

Wasn't really buying (current tank is at about the right amount), stopped by 'just in case'.Never know what might be in.

Are you in Hereford or near?

edit:don't know of any further north than Newent. There's a small AquaJardin there.Not sure i trust a LFS that sells these.

otherwise there's Aquatic Habitat at Shurdington. Or my current favourite, the Aquajardin @ J12 M5 next to Blooms Garen centre
