Why not have a forum where people can post information regarding their LFS, such as stock, accessories etc and give them a rating?

Just an idea, basically because I went to a LFS today, which specialised in Discus according to a magazine, and when I got there they didnt have any!!!

So as a retailer myself I say no to this and tbh honest even if the place you visited didnt have discus at the time it could be for several reasons, I'm a betta specialist and twice a month i have no bettas in stock forsale as i sell them all, this is just the way it happens. Also youve got to take into account that this LFS like all LFS's at the moment are holding back on buying in expensive stock like discus due to the economy. Discus are one of the well known fish to sit in tanks for months before a single sale is made, so it would be classed as dead stock at the moment (well live LOL, but you know what i mean) did you ask them if they were due to get any in? I know that some who specialize in the more expensive are ordering to meet individual needs and not for displays with the hope to sell months later.

Slander laws come to mind. A poor rating could be classed as slander. If you put a board up yourself, you will have to investigate those laws, of you could be sued...

Something that lists stock would be one thing but ratings are something else altogether. As mentioned, there is the potential for slander charges and William has been down that road before. If a member slams a store in a general thread, that's one thing and it could be removed by a mod but if William is providing a specific forum for it, then he becomes more liable. We just had a thread in the last 2 or 3 weeks about the same thing.

Even one on stocking would be hit or miss at best. Stores get their fish in on specific days of the week. Obviously, they order based on past sales history and projected needs. It's quite possible that they would have discuss 90% of the time and just be out when you went in. On the other hand, you may go in and see a specific fish, post here that the LFS has them when in actuality, it was a one time thing.

just thinking the other way is there any interest in having a a pinned thread of lfs's which are around in general and wot sort of stock they hold i know im always on the lookout for new and amazing new places etc etc maybe sort of a keyguide stating tropical ,marine other cats like reptiles etc abit like there is on practical fishing site .... anyways just a thought just so other ppl now there are other places near them that they dont know about ....alot of work maybe for mods but i guess if wanted or be picked as mods they should be prepared for the work but maybe in sections ..... just waiting for this idea 2 be shot down lol

this is all from me finding a maiden head aqautics literally 5 mins drive from my house that i found a mnth or so ago and never new it was there so if thats possible for me 2 not know then there obviously will be others in same boat
