Got rid of the plants, this is now plantless for the forseeable future!

Getting more wood and rocks and want to sort out the substrate!

What a pity that you took out the plants! Were they not doing well?

They were doing fine, i just dont want that type of scape anymore, im doing more of an venezuelan blackwater biotope

The surface of the water is oily, as if someones poured oil right on the tank, and when you touch it, it has major surface tension, and when you break througth it just goes straight back to how it was.

It also forms solids, i put the net in yesterday to move a what seemed like a dead cory, and loads of speckly bits floated off the surface.

IK skimmed the top of the tank, just with the net and i got so much orangey brown gunk it was minging. The only thing ive added in the past month or so is cories and black neons.

Is it because of the uprooting of the plants? Anything coming from the substrate? Or otherwise it could be the wood.

Its been doing it from before that, although not as bad i have to say. Substrate is just sand, plain sand.

Yes, I remember now. Have you tried to give your wood a good scrub?

yep, took everything out when i took the plants out and scrubbed it with a towel (clean!)

Mmm, I still think it is the wood though; there is nothing else left....
Do you know what kind of bogwood you have? Is it possible to boil it?

yeah its just plain mopani, i dont want to boil it because everywhere ive looked online it says boiling the wood makes it even worse and rots it, and also if i take the wood out theres nowhere for my shrimp to hide!!

Bought a new stand, and spray paint, so once someone strong comes home i am going to take everything out of the tank, give it a good scrub outside and paint it, then set it up, hopefully downstairs!

gave away the goruami and bought six more bronze cories, one of which only has one front fin!! aw cute!


anyway next to get rid of is the praecox and then stocking should be all good!!

stand is ace i love having everything put away tidily, although boyfriend has stolen two shelves and a cupboard for all his books and dvds that he doesnt even read/watch!!

I agree with you on the stand; it looks so much neater with all these small items stored away!
