We are rehoming our fish tank and fish. There are gold fish (2 different types) 2 placos, and 2 tetras. Entire set up comes with pump, heater, thermometer, gravel cleaner and all decorations we have. We are asking $300 firm. You will also get the 3.5 gallon tank that can be used for anything. Both tanks have led lights that change colors.

People are just not knowledgeable whatsoever. They refuse to do research, and end up killing all their fish.

I had a pretty heated discussion with a group of people at my work, when they were talking about how they can never keep fish alive for more than a week.

One dude said he went out and bought a goldfish, put it in the tank, and the next day I was dead. I asked him what were his water parameters, and he said “what do you mean water parameters?” Then I said, “You know... pH, GH, ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate”.

Then I asked if he had cycled the tank, and he said “what’s cycling a tank?”

No one in the group had a clue what I was talking about.

I have, ahem, thoroughly educated my coworkers on fishcare. Of course, they are a bit of a captive audience since I am shift lead, lol.

I saw a person yesterday selling a 33 long with stand (tank measured 48 x 12 x 12 inches) as a 50 gallon for $200, nothing else included. You can get the tank and stand new for that price...

When I first had a fish tank, I think I went through about a fish a week. I have a post in this thread if you want to read a thorough explanation:

Please don't whale on me I was a 9 year old kid who was excited about fish
The only thing I did to properly care for them was daily feedings and a yearly water change. The longest fish I had kept lived to be around like 5 years(by my friend's approximation who I gave it to after we moved). It's only now that I'm getting worried about fish, and it seems my parents aren't too happy about that because they want me to focus on my studies. Anyway, now that I'm doing this, I'm going to thoroughly educate any friends of mine who will keep fish.

Did I read that correctly ... yearly water change ?

Good thing is is that the algae actually went down, and it actually never ended up covering the whole tank.
