are leopard puffers brackish or freshwater? because i was thinking about getting one but i dont know if i want to deal with a brackish aquarium at the moment.

yeah i know they are species only i just like them and thought i might get one or two for a separate tank.

Um.. leopard puffers are not the same as GSPs, although GSPs are sometimes incorrectly sold as leopard puffers so you need to be sure what you're looking at.

GSPs are Tetraodon nigroviridis, are Asian and require light to heavy brackish conditions, with the SG rising as they mature.
The fish are bright lime green with black spots.
Maximum size 5.5 inches.

Leopard Puffers are Tetraodon schoutedeni and are full freshwater African puffers
They are a brownish gold with a paler belly and covered with close-set black and brown spots.
Maximum size 3.5 inches.

I always thought that Leopards were the same as GSPs, and the others were sold as Congos (just not like slug lol) or Green Puffers...?

Can't remember, anyway, it doesn't make any difference to me, mine are GSPs, born and bred (well...no...but...)

so leopard puffers are freshwater then? -_-
t. Schoutedeni are 100% freshwater, yes.

But remember that your store may have incorrectly labled GSPs which require brackish.

Be careful

ok cool i'm pretty sure they have them labelled right considering they have green spotted puffers right next to them. hopefully they arent stupid enough to mess that up.

what would be the min tank size for a leopard puffer then?

For one Leopard, you should be fine with a well filtered 20g and still have room for a bristlenose for algae & cleanup duties.

cool, i think i might have to get one some time in the near future. thanks for the help guys.
