Leeroy's Fishless Cycle Log..... Day 33 Am Test

i'l have to take a look at them :) what sort of size do they get to???

Day 28 am test

Ammonia seems to stil be at 2ppm and nitrite seems to be back to 0.

Im using the Juwel internal filter still and so far i'e just been rising the top pads out in tank water to clean them every now and again but juwel recommend them to be changed every week. i know changing every week isn't really neccessary, hence washing them but i had to change them last night as the pads were on their last legs. Will this affect the bacteria or does the bacteria sit lower in the filter?? at the moment have left the old pads squashed up in the corner of the filter so any bacteria is still in there...

I am not familiar with the Jewel filter, not available here. In general, any pads that you have will be a part of your biological filter, really any part that gets good flow becomes part of the biofilter. The brownish staining is the beginning of your bacterial colony so you really don't want to make the stain go away. The ammonia back down to 2 from around 4 seems like some progress.

The dwarf bristlenose plecs still grow to about 4 inches but are smaller than a normal bristlenose that goes to around 6 inches.

yeh i really need to clean the keeps as they were inhibiting flow through the filter. as i said i've kept the old pads in the filter to hopefully share the bacteria :)

Day 30 am test

so been away for a few days and left the tank running and i was hoping to come back to a nice 0 ammonia level but oh no its still at 1 - 2ppm ita as if i have ammonia pixies topping it up each night

nitrites are no existent but i guess that due to the ammonia no shifting and also the nitrites are also none existent again i guess thats due to the nitrites no processing......

any1 got any ideas of whats going on???

im tempted to either add a little ammonia and get it up to 5ppm to try and kick start it again or drain the water and start from scratch.. unless any1 else can advise, im sure there'll be some goodvkarma in it for ya :good:

right well i've added 5ml of ammonia to try and get the level back up to 5ppm and see if it kick starts things again.....

The bacterial lives mainly in the blue coarse and fine sponges. Don't replace these unless they start breaking up or become otherwise unusable. You can clean them in old tank water.

The white poly filter you can either replace or run under tap water to clean.

The black carbon filter removes medications, so doesn't need to be used.

The remaining green filter removes excess nitrates and should be replaced every six weeks or so.

cheers buddy

just trying o keep the white top poly filter clean as its been restricting the flow through the filter :)

After bumping up the ammonia level to 5ppm the cycle seemed to have been kickstarted back in action. :)

However yesterday (the day my GF was due to come stay with me for a while) i spoke to my GF and she asked how the tank was doing and i said things are back on track by the looks of things.... now she kinda mistook what i said and when she arrived she had a present for me..... yes u guessed it.... not 1 but 1 bags of fish...

2 small pairs of bolivian rams and 2 small pairs of gourami's........ hmmmmm

new thread being started now for a fish in cycle!!!!!!!
