If I'm going to fly a full day plus to visit though, the wife has to be on board...  She's a beach girl.  She doesn't like trees... trees means ticks (or at least potentially) and she's deathly afraid of ticks.  Other bugs don't get to her as much, except spiders.

Around about 1200 at a rough estimate.

Just kidding, I now have 0 (because I don't live on a farm anymore ) but the whanau used to have about 12000+ on our 100+ Acre farm. My dad's paying for it now!

Over in NZ with the lack of sunlight you would have no such problem.

Are you sure you're not thinking of England?
Where I live there's plenty of sunlight. There's not a cloud in the sky - in the middle of winter. 
Just because its not very warm doesn't mean there's no sunlight, like I said, not a cloud in the sky and its only 16.8.
