Hi all,

Are there any of the large NW Cichlids that can comfortably live together in a 125 gal? I'm thinking Oscar's JD's, Texas, Green Terror etc.

They would be the only inhabitants except for a large sailfin Plec. I know the aggression is a problem but wondered if there is any combination that usually works.

Thanks in advance

I've seen all of those combined. In that size tank, a couple of large New Worlds like those you mentioned, plus the plec, should be manageable.

Thanks Sylvia, any particular combinations i should avoid or especially good ones? I would love to keep a Texas with maybe a JD or an Oscar.

Nics are peaceful and large...
Ya but they don't end up looking very nice in the mix n match environment either and don't stand a chance against meanise like Texas and JDs.

if you want an agresive tank, red devil, festae, JD, Tex, mana, and convict (they reach 6 inches) are good candidates.

just a warning that plecos make the nitrAtes go up alot! and wen i say alot i mean it! I was reading an article where this guy was having 30 ppm nitrAtes, and when he got rid of it the nitrAtes dropped down below 5ppm. I dont recommend a pleco but if you have got to have one, then fine go and get one.

Parrot cichlids, convicts, severums could all go together..

The nics I've seen have been meaaan.. I don't know if we're thinking of the same fish.. Nicaraguanese or however it's spelled.

Was watching a filn called it's all gone Pete Tong last night,
In the background in some scenes there is a big tropical fish tank with large new world cichlids have a look!

All those you listed in your first post can work together - though not all at once of course.

Thanks for all the replies guys.

By Nic, i take it you mean Nicaragua (Jaguar Cichlid)? I don't know much about them but they are good looking fish.

I don't particularly want an aggressive tank, i keep Mbuna so i get plenty of aggression there. I just want to keep 2 large NW's, probably an Albino Oscar and a JD or Texas along with the sailfin. However if there is a safer combination, i'd be interested to know. I'm probably going to get a Jewel Rio 400 tank with an additional filter to cope with the waste.

Another question, i've found some pictures on Google of a red Texas (bright red, gorgeous fish). Does anyone know if this is a genuine colour morph or a crossbreed with something else?

Update................ i bought a Gold Saum/Green Terror today. He's currently in the 30 gal (he's only a Juvie) but will be going in the new 400 litre. I just couldn't resist because he's the nicest example i've ever seen and he'll be fine in the 30 gal for a couple of months until the new tank is setup and cycled etc.

The plan now is him with an Albino Oscar and the sailfin in the 400 litre, does this sound OK?
