hi
i have a peaceful community tank that is 40g but when i came home tonight my angel had a chunk out of his body,it was clearly a bite but i don't know what could of done it.I can't get a picture of the angel but the bite is similar to something i'd expect from my jewel cichlid, the stock is :

1 angel 4 - inch
3 gourmai's - 2 inch
4 guppies - 3 cm
5 platies - 4 cm
5 head and tail light tetra's - 2 cm
2 spanner barbs - growing out - 3 cm
3 clown loaches - growing out 1.5 inch

The gourami's and angel have got on very well and seem to have there own territory's so who could do this ??
Also to save me asking again in another thread how can i induce a pregnant female platy into labour ??

Thanks

Alex

Look thoroughly round the tank is there anything it could have swam through/past and got caught??

Angels, gourami, barbs, and clown loaches can all be aggressive at times. I've seen clown loaches do great damage with their cheek spines and mouths. Many of these fish do well when smaller but get more aggressive as they age. I'm not sure how long they've all been in the same tank so this might not apply but often seemingly peaceful fish grow up to be jerks.

When you say chuck out of his body, exsactly how bad is it? is it a proper bite mark, or something like a scrude? or could it be on the actual fins?

there is the bog wood he could of caught it on but it reminds me of a cichlid bite witch is my worry the chunk is about 5 mm deep and about half a centenertre each way

Thanks for helping

Alex

If it is definately a bite, I would put money on the clown loach, I have seen mine chase my oscar around. Keep a close eye on their behaviour and I would up the numbers to 6 so they keep more amongst themselves and leave the other fish alone :)
