How brilliant are these plecs really, I saw one at Pier up at about 8 inches for £185 which is out of my price range. Currently trying to source some youngsters from a friend who can import hoping for lower prices and growing some on a bit :) Could be a risky "investment" as they could turn out to be L152 just trying to confirm they are wild caught from Brazil atm :)

Anyone here got one?

Stunning plecs and hard to obtain, there's a couple floating around at the mo for around the £200 mark (i think around 12 inch) which is quite reasonable.

They also get very big and need large tanks, good luck in finding youngsters and growing them on, not sure how cost effective it would be, they dont grow very fast and if you manage to find any 'small' ones, they many take a few years to get big enough to make any sort of price your seeming them at currently..unfortunately by them though price may have dropped quite abit :/. stunning fish though :good:

Yeah I have seen the £200 ones but I just cant justify it lol. I agree totally worth it though.

I see what you mean about the price drop, a bit like Panda Uaru in a way gorgeous fish but really expensive now but only takes a short amount of time for them to be bred more to come in line with other fish.

Still if I can get some at a small size I would still think about it :) Growing fish up is half the fun IMO :)

Lovely plecs as i mentioned and certainly worth the £200 however they get to big for my liking... i prefer dwarf species and if i was to spend another couple of hundred i would buy another zebra lol.

Would be nice to find some juvenile cheap ones though lol ;)

Is it really worth it?? Some of the Exotic plecos end to hide a lot. So you drop all that money on a fish to only see its poop. Well that was the case of my Ancistrus sp. l255 not the spotted kind. he was $20 that was a good amount for me to spend on one fish at the time. Only to have the fish hide all day. Just saying.

Each to there own i guess, if i had a soft spot for cichlids or oddballs etc then i wouldn't hesitate to spend a few hundred £ on the right fish, just so happens that i only keep plecs, only really like plecs and will only ever pay £100's for plecs.... you would probably do it on cichlids? if at the time it called for it. You may not see the smaller dwarf species all that often but the love/passion you have for this species of fish overcomes that fact... however the fish mentioned above gets much much bigger and the likely hood of not seeing it much would be quite remote unless you literally had a tank full with cover.

The medusa you had though has a renowned reputation of being very illusive anyways and most people comment on how little it gets seen lol ;).

The L95s are a lot more active than most plecs - check some vids on youtube they are awesome!! Looks like I have found some for a decent price for my self now so pretty happy :)

If you get to see your expense fish then it's worth it. I love my plecos not as much as you but I understand why you love them. Ever since the stupid medusa I have been less likely to drop down too much on a Pleco. Yes an extra large pretty Pleco would be cool as long as I got to see it

I have 2 x 12inch + L095 in my tank they are a great pleco and they swim around in mid water they are also very peaceful

As for the fish you call panda uaru that's not the name at all they are uaru fernadayapezi I have a shoal of 14 if you think they are easy to breed think again they need a very low ph of about 5 and a ph that low comes with it's own problems they are also prone to hole in the head and the slim coat seams to react badly to higher ph take a look at my you tube videos of the uaru

The price of uaru.f has not dropped at all I paid £125 each for my 10inch ones and £75 each for small ones 6 years ago and the prices are near the same now

Back to l095 great fish that is the only pleco I know that's 100% ray safe and worth £200 all day London to a ray keeper like me to keep the green under control
